To put an old plastic toilet seat in the recycling bin

Well it's white and plastic. Can it go in the recycling bin or should I throw it at the end of the garden? It's actually already in the bin, so if it goes in the bin truck will it make a loud sound when it gets crushed? Will the bin men knock on my door and tell me off fr putting it in there?

Where does one dispose of an old plastic toilet seat?

Don't you have the men driving round in flatbed vans who seem to pick up any old shit unwanted items? Most of them seem to just want metal but there seem to be some more general rag-and-bone types about.

We had some knock on the door at 6.50am Angry this morning to ask if they could take some old windows that we'd deliberately left out hoping someone would take a fancy to them.

If push came to shove I'd cut the lead off the toaster and put in in the bin. Cut the plug off the lead as well. It's a 3-tier process!!!

Really it won't degrade in your garden and it won't degrade in landfill but at least in landfill the robots they send to clean the planet in 2560 will know where to start!

PS me being me I'd probably keep the plug in case it came in handy, and chuck it out in about 10 years when I realised it hadn't.

I think I'd rather have fairies at the bottom of the garden than an ancient loo seat.

I put our last loo seat in the wheelie bin, as our council tip now only takes recyclables and besides, to encourage greater recycling, it's now only open from 5am to 5.45am on alternate Wednesdays. Hmm

Hapless - that is EXACTLY how we got rid of our old bath screen, bath and old bath cabinet when we re-fitted the bathroom. I just don't feel comfortable leaving a toilet seat in my front garden, especially when all our bums have been on it one time or another....

Sardine, that sounds like something my Dad would do with the plug thing! I'm too afraid that when it gets crushed in the bin truck it will make a loud sound or jam it or something. I feel like I would be breaking the law! Nah I'll leave the toaster! Grin But the toilet seat is going...on Tuesday to be precise!

When we bought our last house we had to have a lot of work done so the builder did a fair amount of the ripping out and just ordered a skip for one day at the end meaning we had the whole bright blue toilet sitting proudly in the front garden (along with a load of other crap). Can't remember if it was for days or weeks and we didn't live there at the time so didn't affect us but goodness knows what the neighbours thought as it was a naice area Grin.

On the high street we have a charity recycling bin for small electrical goods. Have you got one locally, where you could dump the toaster?

ComeIntoTheGarden, thanks I might look into that. Our local Tesco and Waitrose have some big recycling bins in their car park - will check if they have a electrical one.
