to think I could cope with a second job

We really could do with more money coming into the household. We have cut back but I am fed up working so hard and still feeling like we are struggling.

I work ft as does my dh. My commute is 10 hours a week. As I cannot reduce outgoing anymore I thought should I look at it from another perspective and increase the incomings.

Just wanted to hear from other Mums who are holding down a full time job and a second. When do you work? How do you manage with keeping up with household tasks? Will I lose most of it in tax? Which jobs/ways to earn money would fit in best with my life?

thanks

Becoming a party plan consultant could really work for you. You then get to pick and choose when and if you want to work. You can fit it in around your existing schedule unlike other work where you have fixed hours. Just be sure to choose a product you believe in and the rest should be easy.

It depends on what you're qualified to do.

I used to work in London FT, with a 90 minute journey each way. Then I worked Friday and Saturday nights locally.

I'd sleep for about 3 hours on Saturday & Sunday, so we still got to do weekend stuff with the children.

It meant that I was bringing in an extra £600 a month without having to pay for childcare. I didn't really notice the tiredness, as we still had children who didn't sleep through the night, so I was sleep deprived anyway. Grin

Are you a party planner CrispyCod? What do you sell?

No, I'm not a party planner as such but I do run a small internet business as well as hold down a full time job. I know a few party planners who do well from both parties at houses and from doing events at school fairs and events.

If you have kids then you have automatically widened your customer base as you will probably know lots of other mums.

The Body Shop Parties, Avon, Jamie at Home etc can be good but also quite saturated, there are lots of people doing these products already. I know of an up and coming company called 'The Linen Loft' who are looking for party consultants. They seem to be growing and doing well. (that's not my company by the way!!!)

Are you good at anything? Dressmaking, sewing etc. You could do alterations for people.

No, I am not good at anything like that I don't think. My background is parenting work. I am a social worker but I am willing to give anything a go!
