..to claim the cost of lost train ticket from work?

I was in London today for work. On the way home, between getting off the tube at KX and the access gates to the train platform the return portion of my train ticket disappeared. I had to fork out £125 for a replacement. AIBU to claim that cost back from work? Should I fess up and risk it or fib so that I definitely get reimbursed?

You could ask at work, but I wouldn't expect much. I guess it depends on what their rules are though....

I wouldn't lie about what happened as it was your fault (albeit a genuine accident).

Claim, but fess up

mysteryfairy · 02/05/2012 20:35

How could you fib and definitely get reimbursed? Won't the person who authorises your expenses notice you have claimed twice? Don't you have to provide receipts?

Dru77 · 02/05/2012 20:40

Tickets are bought through work so a fib could involve saying that I booked a set train and missed it etc.

I couldn't, I'd be thinking the deceit would come back to me in another way Grin

Sounds rather dishonest to claim if you simply lost it.

Springforward · 02/05/2012 20:42

I wouldn't lie about expenses, it's one of those things which I've seen come back to haunt people TBH.

I might try having a word with whoever approves your expenses to explain what happened and see what they're prepared to do.

hermioneweasley · 02/05/2012 20:44

Definitely don't fib - not worth losing your jobover £125. I would be honest and see what your boss says. If you're otherwise reliable then they'll probably let you claim it.

I know, I will ending up telling them and see if they offer to reimburse. In the mean time I'll pay it off from the joint account and see if the husband notices. Wink
