but instead they have arranged for us to use loos down the road (you have to leave the building and walk 5 mins) and provided bottled water to drink.

there are no facilities to wash hands or anything.

i am sat here dying for the loo but don't want to have to go on a 15 min round trip again....

You can't be that desperate then.

No, I don't see why you should be sent home as they seem to have provided adequate work arounds.

TenaciousOne · 02/05/2012 15:40

Hmm I'm not sure, if you do something that can be done from home then yes they should give you the option. Although this reminds me of my office where in winter I would regularly go in and it'd be freezing as 5 degrees and wouldn't warm up to the double figures until 2pm and someone would have the window open because they were hot Hmm

Oh and go to toilet.

Hammy02 · 02/05/2012 15:49

OP. Are you for real? What more do you want work to have provided for you?

Whoneedssleepanyway · 02/05/2012 15:52

Seriously u think it is acceptable for 1000 people to have no wash room facilities and need to do 15 min round trip...i.do.t want a day off just work from home with.a loo...

dd2's school closed today because there was no water and the water company thought it would be at least five hours before the main would be mended.

EatsBrainsAndLeaves · 02/05/2012 15:54

Surely lots of people who work away from an office will have to wait at lesat 15 minutes to go to the loo? Van drivers, etc. I don't think this seems too bad as long as it is a very temporary situation and nobody has an illness/disability which means they need very quick access to the loo

EdithWeston · 02/05/2012 15:56

Those who have working from home arrangements in place should have been encouraged to leave, I agree. And the extra time for loo breaks should be disregarded. But there's still no need to close unless the alternate loo is just one with a queue of 1,000. Which it can't be if the total trip is 15 minutes.

RabbitsMakeBrownEggs · 02/05/2012 16:07

Wouldn't be acceptable at all for me, it would discriminate against my disabilities as I have renal problems and mobility problems, so walking and having to wait so long wouldn't be any use at all. I'd work from home instead, is that an option?

Whoneedssleepanyway · 02/05/2012 16:14

It is pretty grim i went into one of the washrooms to get a tissue and people have been ignoring do not use sign so in an unpleasant state i feel sorry for whoever has to sort this out.

I'm surprised, I would expect them to ask you to all work from home for the day.
