to think that DH should BUTT OUT

We have a leak under the kitchen sink. Last night, DS2 and I cleared out the cupboard under said sink, to try and find out where the leak is coming from, pipes, drain, taps, washing machine outlet /inlet etc etc. i.e. empty cupboard, more chance to see where the water is coming from. Do normal stuff for a couple of days, check and see what makes the leak.

Tonight I go back into the cupboard to check the leak, and DH has filled it again to the brim. Angry DH said "OH, it's all dry now, I put everything back" I asked how are we supposed to see where the leak is, if the cupboard is filled with crap stuff?

DH now in a huff as I said empty the cupboard out again. You filled it, you empty it.

IANBU am I.

Nope. Where was all the stuff in the meantime?

TheHouseOnTheCorner · 01/05/2012 22:37

If it's leaking you needn't wait for a couple of days...a leak is a leak! What's "nnormal stuff"? You mean running a tap? Surely you do that daily...multiple times! you should have checked regularly on the day you emptied and dried the cupboard...the pipes will be easy to rub with a towel...then feel them and look for droplets. YABU for taking a couple of days over this.

In bags hanging up in the pantry. Out of the way, completely safe.

No House it's a slow leak. No drips, just an accumulation of moisture, poloing of water for a random reason apparently. Tried feeling/wiping the pipes etc. no joy.

your u bend is probably clogged up with gunge and the seal is leaking...

Teeb · 01/05/2012 22:47

So he is to blame for trying to tidy up and put things away? Why could you not just be calm and say 'Oh actually were not sure if the problem is resolved yet, so maybe it's best if we keep the space clear for a couple of days?' rather than creating an issue.

yabu.

Could it be condensation?

I guess not if it's a new leak.

Hadn't even thought about the safety aspect TBH - I just remember a very funny sight when a friend of mine had a similar leak and she lined up every single item in a neat straight line on her kitchen floor. It looked like a Cif / Vim / windex / pledge / sponge / brush conga line.

Grin

Your poor DH probably thought he was being all helpful and earning extra brownie points. Has he emptied it again yet?

Hassled · 01/05/2012 22:49

The problem is that he meddled with your project, and I'm guessing that he's generally a meddler. Does this come on the back of a whole history of meddling? It can be bloody annoying.

WhispersOfWickedness · 01/05/2012 22:50

YABU on the basis that I am Envy that you have a DH who puts stuff away Grin Mine would be more likely to clear out the cupboard into a messy heap in the middle of the kitchen floor and then leave it Hmm

ratspeaker · 01/05/2012 22:51

YANBU
get all the stuff out and put down newspaper, or some sort of paper you'll be able to tell from that where the drips are as the paper will swell up nd have a mark even if it's not wet iyswim

FatherHankTree · 01/05/2012 23:07

Wrap the pipes under the sink with kitchen roll: it may take a day or so, but feel for damp bits and you'll find the leak. When your DH put all the crap back, did he put it back in exactly the same place he took it from?
