I hate regular tea. Does it taste like regular tea or just fruity?

Fruit teas smell quite nice but taste like muddy puddles.

Mint tea is good - with a little honey if you want it sweetened

hiddenhome · 01/05/2012 22:03

Dragonfly do a nice Earl Gray Redbush Smile

Fruit teas are pretty awful, but herbal ones aren't too bad. Nettle, peppermint and fennel are nice.

MiseryPlop · 01/05/2012 22:05

Twinings Camomile & Spiced Apple is gorgeous. I love Fennel and Peppermint tea too.

Lueji · 01/05/2012 23:25

It depends on the herb.

I'm not fond of chamomile, which I find insipid.
I prefer stronger flavoured, with mint/spearmint/pepperming some of my favourites, but also rosemary and lemon balm.

Lemon tea is also good.

Green tea is from the same plant as black tea.

I hate fruit teas. Taste like warm juice.

VinoEsmeralda · 01/05/2012 23:34

Tea pigs! Love the liquorice&peppermint, green tea and the lemon grass ones.expensive but worth it!

poppy283 · 02/05/2012 07:38

Green tea is a good alternative and has caffeine.
Chai is lovely with milk if a little sweet.
Peppermint's really refreshing .
My top tip would be to add a splash of orange juice to any red, purple or orange flavoured fruit tea, really brings out the flavour.
My faves are Echinacea + rasberry and orange, cinnamon + mango, both twinnings, and blackberry + achai berry from Sainsbury's

usualsuspect · 02/05/2012 07:42

They all taste like Lem sips to me.

Although theres a blackcurrant and vanilla one thats quite nice.

Rhubarbgarden · 02/05/2012 07:50

Nettle tea is lovely.

EatsBrainsAndLeaves · 02/05/2012 07:55

I like real tea and like some herbal teas e.g. blackberry, strawberry type ones. But I don't like redbush - nasty stuff trying to masqeruade as real tea.

jamdonut · 02/05/2012 07:56

Peppermint tea is the only one I can drink, all other herbal teas are pretty revolting really. I get mine from Aldi.
I get fed up with ordinary tea...sometimes I'll have black tea. I think it's just the milk puts me off really,I just like a tiny splash,(can't bear milky tea or tea with sugar eeeeew) but it's habit isn't it?

bigbadbarry · 02/05/2012 08:04

I agree with everybody who says stay away from the nasty fruit teas, go herbal :)

betterwhenthesunshines · 02/05/2012 09:06

You can buy mix boxes - that way you get to know what you like. Personally like lemon and ginger, or mint, or green tea. Fruit teas are just disappointingly not Ribena!

MeKathryn · 02/05/2012 09:12

You need fresh herbs really to taste them properly. Lavender flowers are lovely and are good for headaches. Mint teabags are a bit tasty though.

YABU to be scared though- they don't bite.

CaoNiMa · 02/05/2012 09:34

Herbal tea is amazing. At the moment I'm drinking an infusion of burdock, vervaine, lemongrass and rose buds and it's delicious. Keeps the weight off too.

Sparklingbrook · 02/05/2012 09:54

Right, I am off out in a minute. What flavour herbal tea for a first timer? Ease me in gently. Not liquorice though. Grin

samandi · 02/05/2012 10:02

Seems a bit of a strong emotion to have about trying a sip of non-harmful liquid.

mumeeee · 02/05/2012 10:16

Depends on what herbal or fruity tea you want to try. None of them taste like real tea.

eurochick · 02/05/2012 10:21

I hate ordinary tea. I even find the smell of it on someone else's breath repulsive.

I quite like herbal teas. My favourite is verbena, which is bizarrely difficult to find in this country. I also like lime leaf (ditto). I stock up when I am in France where these two are as common as camomile or mint are here.
I agree with what others have said about fruit teas. They smell much, much better than they taste!

HugeFurryWishingStool · 02/05/2012 10:23

CaoNiMa, sounds lovely! Did you buy or make that tea?

ratspeaker · 02/05/2012 10:43

I drink a lot of mint tea, it helps with acid reflux.
I was drinking Redbush also known as Roobios long before it became popular, I find it very refreshing.
I like chamomile ,vanilla and honey from Twinings for bedtime.
MrScruff do some lovely teas, mint and chilli is warming on a cold day

I never add milk or sugar to herbal teas, personal preference

Pandemoniaa · 02/05/2012 10:46

Firstly, forget the word tea in connection with these herbal concoctions. They bear absolutely no resemblance to the fine amber brew that refreshes but does not intoxicate.

Instead, think of them as infusions and then consider whether you'd like to drink something that tastes and smells like a poorly tended compost heap.

ErnesttheBavarian · 02/05/2012 10:48

the only fruit tea I'll drink is rose hip (or at a push something red berryish) and yes, leave the bag in the whole time.

A good starter for herbal is mint, also you can get red bush flavoured with vanilla or strawberry which I like. Redbush tea has got a huge long list of positive health benefits btw.

Nettle tea is great for allergies.

EvenBetter · 02/05/2012 10:51

Haha!
I've had loose leaf peppermint. Smells minty, tastes like pure fag ash.

Meglet · 02/05/2012 10:52

I like fennel / nettle / liquorice teas.

Green tea with peppermint is good for days when I feel like I'm coming down with a bug.

Don't like the fruity, sweet ones though.

LadyWord · 02/05/2012 10:54

Too scared??

BOO!!!
:o

They are nothing like real tea at all. I quite like peppermint, jasmine and chamomile, occasionally. The fruity ones are usually boak and watery-tasting. I usually find if I have herbal tea at someone else's house I think "ooh this is OK" and buy some - then don't really fancy it and never use it.

But you can get selections packs with several different flavours in, so you could try one of those. Go on, be brave!
