to think the police can't give tickets if they weren't there!

Now, I accept I'm probably in for a flaming, and I'm sure it must be very annoying however.

DD goes to rainbows on a Tuesday (she has only been going a few weeks). It is in at the end of a cul de sac and parking is a nightmare. However, I literally have to go in, pick her up and then shoot out again. When I drop her off I don't get out of the car.

When I got back to the car tonight a resident was taking a photo of my car and said he had called the police. I was blocking his drive. He said that they police would issue me with a ticket.

Now I know I am in the wrong, and I shouldn't have done it, but it was only a few minutes. I realise it must be very annoying if you live there but I do think that telling a 5 year old that the police will be visiting Mummy is out of order Angry. She is now very worried.

Can the police issue tickets on a neighbour's say so? I've never parked there before!

Confused

pretty sure they can if they have a pic. Got someone towed before for doing that, though that would be impound fee instead...

I really wasn't there long enough. Certainly not long enough to be towed Blush.

The law for drives is if there is a car on the drive you can't block it if it has a lowered kirb or something like that.

He is probably just pissed of with inconsiderate parking though and I d

Sirzy · 01/05/2012 18:57

I doubt the police will do anything.

OldGreyWiffleTest · 01/05/2012 18:58

How many other people do it as well as you? If everyone at Rainbows does it no wonder he is getting pissed off!

JarethTheGoblinKing · 01/05/2012 19:00

Can't you park further away and walk?

Xales · 01/05/2012 19:01

mmm I sort of see where he is coming from. You may have only been there for a few minutes, what about the person before you, the person before them, the person after you, the person after them etc.

Also it may be rainbows on a Tuesdays, weight watchers on a Wednesday, the local darts club on a Thursday etc.

All only there collecting individually for a few minutes, all blocking his drive until he has to resort to this.

Not very nice to worry your DD though.

iwantanoompaloompa · 01/05/2012 19:01

I think everyone does it, so I see why he's annoyed.

I just don't really think the police can issue a ticket on the say so of a resident. Presumably the police would have to actually turn up Confused

years ago someone blocked my dad's car in by parking in front of the drive ALL DAY when we had a family day out planned. He was furious and called the police who didn't give a monkey's and couldn't/wouldn't do anything.

iwantanoompaloompa · 01/05/2012 19:03

I can park further away, and will in future but it was pissing with rain. Blush

looktoshinford · 01/05/2012 19:05

You parked over someones drive!

I doubt you'll get a ticket, but you deserve one.

LentillyFart · 01/05/2012 19:13

Yeah coconutty - I'm sure the Police have got bugger all better to do! Honestly!
And the OP has made it very clear she was in the wrong so what's with all the snot nosed finger wagging and telling her off?

McHappyPants2012 · 01/05/2012 19:15

You wont get a ticket, it only illegal if you block a car in as this is obstruction.

I can see why he is pissed off though

eurochick · 01/05/2012 19:16

I'm not sure whetehr the police can issue a ticket but I would be furious if people were parking over my driveway.

minimisschief · 01/05/2012 19:17

i dont see why its his problem your 5 year old thinks the police are after you.

ABatInBunkFive · 01/05/2012 19:20

Well yeah, if you hadn't done something wrong your DD wouldn't be concerned.

iwantanoompaloompa · 01/05/2012 19:26

Well of course that is true.

OP posts:
nocake · 01/05/2012 19:35

Of course the police can't issue a ticket based on someone's photo. Imagine them trying to defend it if you took it to court. "No your honour, the photo wasn't taken by an approved enforcement camera and we have no idea what digital processing has been done to it.... what, you're throwing the case out?"

NoOnesGoingToEatYourEyes · 01/05/2012 19:38

Did he really tell your child the police would be coming for you or did she just hear him tell you he was calling them?

Either way, only being a few minutes is no excuse. We used to have an off road designated parking space, clearly marked as for our use only and we would come home every day to find someone else, always, always, always a parent doing drop off or pick up at the local school, parked in it. Whether they were waiting in the car or knocking on our door when they realised it was us parked right behind them and blocking them in the excuse was always the same. "It was only for a couple of minutes!" Yes, in our parking space, preventing us from using it when we needed to.

If the parking is a nightmare for you, once a week for a few minutes at a time imaging what a nightmare it is for the people who live there, day after day of people blocking their drives because "it's just a few minutes." It's not a few minutes to them, it's a constant, annoying problem.

NoOnesGoingToEatYourEyes · 01/05/2012 19:38

That came out sounding harsher at you than I meant it too, sorry.

DressDownFriday · 01/05/2012 19:43

The police would not issue a ticket.

They may send some pcso's around the cul de sac on any nights that locals have problems with inconsiderate drivers causing obstructions.

The man ringing the police should have been advised to ring the council or have a word with persons in charge of activities being run there.

OutragedAtThePriceOfFreddos · 01/05/2012 19:47

Why was he out of order saying what he had to say in front of your dd? That was your fault, not his.
