to think that this is NOT "shorthand" and should be perfectly intelligible to anyone who works with me?

I work in a supermarket petrol station (so not a huge supermarket!!). I was checking the dates on the crisps the other day and found some with an expiry date coming up. I left a note in our book asking whoever was working on Sunday to reduce certain items. The message read. "Please check dates on Walkers Cheese and Onion crisps and reduce Sens. Sw. Ch. date 5/5." When I went to work last night there was a reply "Sorry, have no idea what you are talking about, please don't use shorthand". In my book, "shorthand" refers to some kind of symbolic writing that resembles Chinese/ Arabic more than English, and this message should have been perfectly easy to read as "Sensations Sweet Chilli". Especially as I had already referred to crisps. AIBU to assume that this was either an idiot, someone who couldn't be bothered to actually do the reductions or someone who wanted to nitpick for teh sake of it, rather than someone who genuinely didn't know what I was talking about?

Can anyone tell that I'm bored??Grin

Speaking as a former supermarket petrol station worker, I'd go with option A or B. They are an idiot, lazy or both. I would understand that. Esp because they'd be shelf filling them. It would take me a minute to work out what you meant though!

Tee2072 · 01/05/2012 13:25

I suppose if I worked there I would understand it. As someone who hasn't stocked shelves in a very long time I had no idea what you were talking about.

And they are right. It is shorthand. Just not Shorthand.

chocolatebuttin22 · 01/05/2012 13:30

It is shorthand , but its easy enough to work out. It is clearly walkers sensations. It would of took them two seconds to work out which flavour. I work in a supermarket, we would of been asked to check all the crisps if we couldnt woirk out which ones it was. As any waste comes of our yearly bonus :(

I think a lazy idiot it was :)

HeadfirstForHalos · 01/05/2012 13:31

I had no idea what sens sw. Ch. was either. Whoever replied to your note may have been lazy, but it's also lazy not to write out the message fully Grin

chocolatebuttin22 · 01/05/2012 13:44

everythink in a supermarket is short hand. Even SEL (shelf edge labels) are in shorthand if the name is to long. It really only would of taken the person two seconds to look at the crisps to work out thats is sensations sweet chilli

HeathRobinson · 01/05/2012 13:48

Well I didn't know what you meant, but in the actual situation I would have checked the crisps and it would have been obvious.

If you do it again, write out one of the words in full, it'll help. Wink

Debsbear · 01/05/2012 13:51

The line on the page is so small I couldn't fit in the full thing! Grin I'm still bored though! Wink

Just tell them to Fk O.

hackmum · 01/05/2012 13:59

Ah yes, what is clearly bothering the OP is that the other person was snotty. Instead of saying, "I'm sorry, I didn't understand the abbreviations!", therefore politely acknowledging it as their fault, they tried to make the OP was being unreasonable by using an abbreviation instead of writing out in full. It's all about manners, innit.

HeadfirstForHalos · 01/05/2012 16:24

I like Fk O. I get that one Grin

I agree that although I didn't understand it, it wouldn't be hard to work out once looking at the crisps.
