Should I email ASDA about "especially for mums" twatishness

ASDA junk mail came through the post. Normally I ignore it but today it has a red love heart on it with especially for mums written inside the heart [yuck]

So I read it, apparently P&T spaces, ASDA deliveries, baby changing/feeding facilities, free cafe baby food and bag packing are all "especially for mums"

No they bloody aren't, most are for anyone with a baby/child and the others are for all customers. Don't start pretending you treat "mums" any different.

I was going to email to say, stop trying to exclude fathers/grandparents etc and pretending being a mum makes you entitled to anything special over and above other customers.

But then I realised I am hormonal, bored, tired and avoiding the gym so may be getting on my high horse about nothing.

Should I email or get my arse off to the gym?

YANBU. You are absolutely right.

BBQJuly · 01/05/2012 15:04

And Iceland's slogan is no better...

"Because mums are heroes"!

PinkElephant73 · 01/05/2012 15:05

YABU to shop at Asda its a shithole full of chavs.

minimisschief · 01/05/2012 15:07

yeah and while we are here change this site to parents net! yeah!

entropygirl · 01/05/2012 15:08

mini oh you beat me to the obvious you know we are on mumsnet right now comment....damn you!

imnotmymum · 01/05/2012 15:15

This really annoys me too! Glad I am not the only one who gets annoyed at "mum" things. That's why Mums go to iceland..., proud sponsors of Mums... yuck. Go on email in fact we all should !!

EdwardorEricCantDecide · 01/05/2012 15:16

Asda's own-brand bog roll has a 'voted best by mums' thing on it - what, only mums wipe arses then? Just bizarre.
I just snorted my tea all over the table!

Op YANBU it definitely reinforces steriotypes that as a society we should be well past!

Winetta · 01/05/2012 15:16

Hey OP, you could perhaps send them a copy of this link while you're emailing them ... this kind of stuff really irritates me! Good luck!

thefurryone · 01/05/2012 15:24

YANBU tell them to fuck right off from me whilst you're at it.

Also agree about the P&G sponsoring mums crap. There is only one person in this house responsible for doing the dishes and last time I checked they didn't have ovaries Angry

samandi · 01/05/2012 15:37

Ew. I thought it was only Iceland that did crap like that. Seems to be a bit of an epidemic though.

AvocadoAndFitch · 01/05/2012 15:52

Yep I'm very bored today, first day without 3DC in 6 months.

It just is annoying that they think 'oh we'll tell them all this stuff we already provide for everyone is really just for mums and they will all come running' Also I can see DP carrying the ad round with him and every poo'y nappy showing the ad to me and saying 'sorry, changing facilities are especially for mums'

I have no problems with 'mums' things and accept the majority of uses will be mums but but slapping a label on it, to the exclusion of others, seems a bit patronising.

EdwardorEric I just checked (very sad I know) and it's actually '3 out of 4 mums prefer it to the leading brand'. The other mum and all dads and other child-free beings must wipe with something else.

Aribura · 01/05/2012 16:37

yanbu but unfortunately there is money in pandering to puts on simpering voice "mommies" and they will go where the money is.

MsVestibule · 01/05/2012 16:44

Istanbul - I've been here for a while, and it is one of my biggest MN bugbears! No objection to people disagreeing with the OP (kinda the point of AIBU), but the "Uh, there are more important things happening in the world to worry about" is ridiculous. If everybody used that criteria before they were allowed to whinge, either in RL or MN, none if us would be allowed to complain, ever!

If that indeed was your point...?

fotheringhay · 01/05/2012 17:09

Go for it OP, idiocy like this needs to be challenged and I'm normally too lazy
