I know theres a count down on and there are only 29 days or however many there are left and that we should all plan our journey times etc. BUT there is not one single mention of the actual date.
AIBU in thinking that by now I should actually know what date they are especially as i have tickets for womens boxing and God knows when that is.

Well this thread made me decide to Google and the official site tells you

Olympic Games 27 July - 12 August

SaggyOldClothCatPuss · 30/04/2012 23:24

I actually don't give a stuff! It's one big waste of money if you ask me!

wheredidyoulastseeit · 30/04/2012 23:26

Yes you're right but it annoys me,that so much publicity is going into the countdown etc and no one ever mentions the dates. I only bought tickets as i feel we have subsidised them so much we might as well go .

I'm right there with you Saggy. I like certain sports and participate in one but the Olympics does nothing for me whatsoever. I just feel sorry for the ordinary Londoners who are going to have their journeys to work disrupted by it and who will probably gain sweet nothing from the proceeds.

KatyMac · 30/04/2012 23:31

AIBU to not care?

LadyBabsWalthamCuddles · 30/04/2012 23:33

I don't know and I don't care. And I live in London, it's going to be horrible Sad

StarshitTerrorise · 30/04/2012 23:34

I don't care either and I grew up in East London.

CrispyCod · 01/05/2012 00:01

I think it's really sad how much negativity there is about the Olympics. I think a few years ago before the recession it would have been the most exciting thing to experience. However, now that the country is in the financial state it's in no-one really cares because we're all too busy trying to make end meet. It really has come along at the worst time. I just hope it goes well and is worth all the upheaval and expenditure.

KatyMac · 01/05/2012 07:46

I'm not negative about it; I'm not positive either - I'm ambivalent tbh

Sport has little impact on my life, none of the very few things I am interested in are ever televised & I have little time for anything I don't care about as I am busy running round after DD & her 'sport'

lolajane2009 · 01/05/2012 08:07

i dont care either. with the current money crisis it is insane to spend so much money on it

DressDownFriday · 01/05/2012 08:12

Miseries!

I'm hoping to come down to London during the Olympics and am looking forward to them.

I know the exact dates as our annual leave at work was severely restricted during this time.

OutragedAtThePriceOfFreddos · 01/05/2012 08:18

I think is sad how many people are negative or ambivalent about the Olympics. It's going to happen, it's going to be all over the telly and it's going to be very hard to escape. So you may as well make the most of it and try and enjoy it.

I didn't know the dates either. I'm not going but my ex is taking the dc, I had to check when he was going so I could book our holiday.

MrsHelsBels74 · 01/05/2012 08:21

Don't know, don't care Grin

reallypissedoffhouseseller · 01/05/2012 08:26

How am I supposed to enjoy it when if you believe the official advice it's going to take me three hours each way to get to work and back (normally 45 minutes)? I can't take leave because my boss is, and I can't honestly complain that he got first dibs because his commute is 3 hours each way in ordinary circumstances Shock.

Grumpystiltskin · 01/05/2012 09:17

The fact that you don't know suggests that you never watch the news or read a newspaper so YABU as your children will probably also grow up with no grasp of current affairs.
YANBU to not care, YABU to not know.

OutragedAtThePriceOfFreddos · 01/05/2012 09:20

I don't think children are likely to grow up with no grasp of current affairs just because their parents don't know the exact dates of the Olympics. Hmm

It's not like people don't even know the Olympics is happening, or even that they don't know it's some time in August.

Grumpystiltskin · 01/05/2012 09:37

So the big 100 days to go spread in most newspapers was missed by everyone?

29 days to go would make it the same weekend as the diamond jubilee celebrations... probably don't know when that is either despite it being an extra bank holiday.

FluffyJawsOfDoom · 01/05/2012 09:44

I'm with saggy. What's more, I am really :( and Shock at the thought of 2 weeks of nothing on TV but sport - it's my worst nightmare Shock

Mrsjay · 01/05/2012 09:47

Im not that bothered either but i did have to google the date as im going to dorset on holiday and they are doing sailing events there , Im not very sporty so i never watch anyway ,

LtEveDallas · 01/05/2012 09:50

AIBU to be ecstatic that we go on holiday OUT OF UK two days before the start of the games and return the day it finishes?

Not only did I know when they were - I booked the holiday purposely Smile

nothingoldcanstay · 01/05/2012 09:53

Didn't get tickets in the lottery first time round

I brought tickets for wrestling in a rush because of the second chance hype. Didn't realise you only got one go and no changes allowed. There is no public transport that get me to Excel for 8.30 am Sunday morning (even though we live an hour away tops but I'm not driving there). So when I put in "plan your journey" apparently I have to leave at 10.30pm the night before and arrive at 1.30am!!!! Cheers for that.

Then I try and sell them. No notice if I have or not. If you look on "my account" it says all information is suspended until Spring?

So now that Premier Inn have rooms on sale within a reasonable budget I can't get on because I don't know if I have tickets.

Grrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr

Mrsjay · 01/05/2012 09:57

My children dont know when the olympics are either ? i dont get why they need to know if they are not interested

GooseyLoosey · 01/05/2012 09:59

I'm with you. Slightly fed up with the whole thing. Dd has a half day off school when the Olympic torch is in town - who cares, I mean how exciting can a torch be?

happygardening · 01/05/2012 10:14

What Olympics?

Loupee · 01/05/2012 10:36

I only know when the olympics start because its the same date as my due date
Sometimes when the mention on the TV 'however many days to go' I think 'Ooooh, thats nice, a national countdown to me giving birth' Wink
Have joked that we will name the baby after the first UK male medal winner!
