For being upset about this plumber?

Got a water meter fitted today and the plumber was a bloke in his mid/late 20s with a younger apprentice. They were really bolshy for the minute they came in and the older one shouted through the house "hey is it alright to use your bog love?" Hmm my elderly grandmother was sat there at the time. I walked over to him and said "the toilet Hmm yes that's ok" well they both burst out laughing Angry he went to toilet and then came out and shouted "sorry love, I've left a massive shit stain and you don't have a bog brush" Shock
DH told them to tone it down as we had elderly relatives here and they laughed at him. DH got upset and went to sit in the conservatory. I asked if they'd nearly finished and they said they had, I then saw them kicking ds's football around the garden and one of them booted it at the car and then pretended to thrust at it grinning at DH through the windows as if they were waiting for a reaction.
I know it sounds trivial but I'm really upset. I don't know what to do, I wouldn't wish for anyone to lose their job in the current climate but how do they act when they go in old people's homes?? what would you do??

DH says I should stop going on about it.

I'm not sure I believe you :-0 I'm sorry but have a Biscuit

Inertia · 30/04/2012 21:08

Write to the water company. That's unprofessional and unacceptable behaviour - lots of people would be intimidated by that.

mistressploppy · 30/04/2012 21:13

Agree with Inertia. Not ok. I'd be really angry.

I would definitely follow it up - who does he think he is?

Comedy, if you don't believe, just don't post.

grumpykat · 30/04/2012 21:16

That's not unprofessional, that's downright rude. Who did he work for? If it was done through your water company then I would make a complaint to them. If it was a landlord water meter then I would start by approaching them. My dh is a plumber and he wouldn't DREAM of behaving like that in a customers home.
I would be livid.

But I like sharing my jammy dodgers!

grumpykat · 30/04/2012 21:19

Oh, and if he was a private plumber, be sure to post a review of them on Yell and other sites. Never, ever pay a tradesman who intimidates you in your own home. Ask them to clear their tools away and leave immediately.

bruxeur · 30/04/2012 21:24

Well that's just bollocks, isn't it?

mumofjust1 · 30/04/2012 21:24

No way are you being unreasonable! What a twat!

Dp is a plumber and also has apprentices with him and would never speak to a customer like this - he's appalled and says that if he's from a company or the council write a complaint, if he's private report him using his corgi number.

So sorry you had a bad experience Sad

JosieZ · 01/05/2012 05:18

Jeesh. I'd have chucked their spanners outside and locked the door after them.
Totally unacceptable. ......and you wouldn't wish anyone to lose their jobs?

Bastards. I'd write a letter to who they work for and lay it on as thick as possible including facts such as granny was shocked and frightened by their behaviour, the scuff marks they made on your lawn, the chipped paintwork they left by the new meter, the dirty footprints made by their boots and the dent on your car door. Screw the bastards. If council workers you could write a detailed letter to your local councillor.

I'd do all this because having some revenge would make me feel much, much better, plus they probably are arseholes wherever they work and shouldn't get away with it.

my2centsis · 01/05/2012 05:31

I think u no your not being unreasonable! Ring the company!

CJ2010 · 01/05/2012 06:17

Most tradesman are professional but unfortunately I have come across a minority that behave like complete tossers and who are shite at their job. I've had a screaming match with a plumber before, who was rude to me in my own home and I kicked him out without pay. He told me he was going to 'knock me out' charming. Angry

Lovelynewboots · 01/05/2012 08:11

What a pair of arseholes. YANBU at all. They should lose their jobs and employ someone who is professional. There are plenty of decent people out there who could do with the work so if they get the sack that is not your problem. They will be like this wherever they go. If my DP acted like that in a persons home he would be on his way back with his P45 because his boss would not put up with that. Horrible behaviour, what a pair of creeps.

Kladdkaka · 01/05/2012 08:38

I thought water meters were fitted out in the street at the point where your supply seperated from the mains. Certainly when I worked for the water company that was the case. There would have been no need to even enter your house or garden. Confused

YonWhaleFish · 01/05/2012 08:50

a colleague of mine's was fitted inside. Wrongly and it caused a flood Confused

Hyperballad · 01/05/2012 09:00

Yep, I would complain about this, I'd write in and follow it up with a phone call.

I wouldn't have the worry about him losing his job, he doesn't care about that so why should you?

Nope complain, imagine the next house he goes to is just an elderly lady on her own? How intimidated would she feel being by herself with this type of loutish unprofessional behaviour. Also if he acted this bad when there were the three of you there what would he be doing when with a single elderly person? Rummaging through their valuables I'd like to bet.

Ooooo I'm all riled now!
