to wonder why adults pay and children go free?

So I went on what will undoubtedly be the first of many stupid pseudo educational trips with DD yesterday to an aquarium...

The whole point of the affair is to show the baby fish, turtles and otters etc. I couldn't care less...I hate fish, turtles are boring and the otters smelled really really bad....

So why did I have to pay £8.75 and the baby goes for free?

AIBU to think this is totally backwards?

To be fair, I know a child who has loved going to the aquarium from the age of about 6 months. He was fascinated with the jellyfish and the sea horses.

Actually, to qualify that - fairness only impacts pricing if the perception of unfairness would make you less likely to buy Grin

It was a lovely idea, but maybe next time check the prices before heading out. If an attraction is free, it doesn't matter if DD gets nothing from it, but at that price, you would pretty much want her to be identifying and sketching the different types of fish by the time she left!

Find a pond full of goldfish and hold her over it. Repeat as necessary. When she starts to show an interest, then spend money on an outing to see fish! Grin

Or go to a garden centre with a pet section Grin

My DS is 8.5 months and does like to watch fish - but for about 30 seconds. So I take him to Pets at Home, where he can see rabbits and hamsters and fish, and all for free! And you don't have to stay ages to "get your money's worth".

These are all good ideas! thanks!

I might also tell DH to hold off on the 70 quid season ticket to a nearby wetlands centre as well....we really aren't rich enough for all this!
