incorrect use of crockery /cutlery

I know IABU but please humour me. This is not about stealth boasting about the amount of crockery/cutlery we have, which admittedly is rather too much although we are lacking in fish knives!

I have, however, increasingly noticed that the person I live with is incapable of pairing the correct eating implement/ crockery to the foodstuff in hand.

They routinely use a soup spoon to eat cereal and I've just noticed used a pasta bowl to have soup from last night. It isn't a problem with stuff not being clean (which I could understand) it is either laziness about getting the correct stuff out of the cupboard or ignorance. I'm not sure which is worse....

When they empty the dishwasher they regularly mix up the table knives and forks with the desert knives and forks (smaller). There are separate slots for them all in the kitchen drawer.

FFS. It really isn't that hard and is slowly driving me potty! I should end the relationship shouldn't I. No good can ever come of someone who can't use a soup spoon properly.

It will drive you potty trust me get out now ! 16 years with someone who refuses to put their knife and fork together at the end of the meal and a cutlery drawer messer I swear one day I will blow I cannot let you live with this brewing anger and resentment

limitedperiodonly · 30/04/2012 10:15

Do you have knives for use in parts of the world that aren't deserts?

lurkerspeaks · 30/04/2012 10:16

Of course! The rainforest knife is very popular - do you not have some?

Hmmm do you turn all the tins in the cupboard to face the front?

JeelyPiece · 30/04/2012 10:17

Leave the bastard.

insancerre · 30/04/2012 10:20

Does your penguin ornament face due south?

sashh · 30/04/2012 10:22

Replace them all with chopsticks - he will soon learn

ConferencePear · 30/04/2012 10:31

I was reading this while listening to an item on Woman's Hour which was saying that 700,000 children turn up at school each morning having had no breakfast. That put it into perspective for me.

izzyizin · 30/04/2012 10:32

Buy them one of those all purpose Swiss army knives that contains a knife/fork/spoon as well as the essential tool for getting stones out of horses' hooves and put a lock on your cutlery drawer.

Emptying the dishwasher yourself will be a small price to pay for your peace of mind.

imnotmymum · 30/04/2012 10:35

still annoying though! But get where you coming from Conference

Cluffyfunt · 30/04/2012 10:42

What about a sport?
spork

Cluffyfunt · 30/04/2012 10:43

Doh! spork

izzyizin · 30/04/2012 10:48

Well spotted, cluffy Grin

Give them a spork and a box of straws for soup and, hey presto, your problem is solved, lurkers.

TheBigJessie · 30/04/2012 11:28

I use my soup spoon to transfer washing powder from its paper bag into the washing machine's powder tray.

LordGiveMeStrength · 30/04/2012 12:05

YOu sound just like my husband. He hates that I use the steak knives for a plethora of uses. Drives him insane. Every few weeks he hides them to "teach me a lesson".

It makes him feel better and I just laugh at him. Works for us.

Maybe hide the bits that annoy you the most and just be prepared to be laughed at for being a bit looney.

HazleNutt · 30/04/2012 12:10

totally YANBU. What kind of savages cut soft cheese with parmesan knife??

bubby64 · 30/04/2012 12:15

My DH uses a spoon to eat meals whenever he can, he has even asked for one in a resturant when he had a chilliBlush. Drives me barmy, but havent managed to stop it in 14yrs! I also say he has double standards, as he is always going on at our DSs to "use your knife and fork, thats what they are provided for!" WTF!!
I must admit, because of losing odd bits and pieces of cutlery, my draw is made up of odds and sods from different sets anyway.

Wheresmycaffeinedrip · 30/04/2012 12:16

:o at penguin ornament !!!

MrsBovary · 30/04/2012 12:21

I can't imagine it easy to eat cereal using a soup spoon. Yanbu

ripsishere · 30/04/2012 12:22

My DH cuts onions up with a tomato knife. He has also used a bread knife on meat and tried to slice bread with a butchers knife.
