To take my DS to pre-school...

...when his sibling has got Chicken Pox?

From what I have read, DS probably won't start showing signs of having it for a good few days yet but he might be contagious. I don't want to keep him cooped up getting cabin fever when he could be learning and socialising.

AIBU? What should I do?

There is no guarantee he will have it or be carrying it, so YANBU to take him in.

He can be learning with you too!

Give them a ring in the morning and ask.

curiositykitten · 29/04/2012 20:28

If he doesn't actually have any symptoms, you'd be doing nothing wrong by taking him in.
If it would involve having to drag his sibling out to do the school run when they are ill, though, I'd probably just opt for a few lazy days.

CaptainVonTrapp · 29/04/2012 20:32

YANBU. It could be over 3 weeks before he gets it or he may not get it at all.

Pre-School would probably thank you in the long run as numbers start to dwindle to the the chicken pox, makes getting those little jobs done much easier.

Just had the chicken pox around our pre-school and it was sooo quiet!

Thanks, I am more inclined to take him in now after reading your replies.
I can get a relative to look after DC with Chicken Pox whilst I drop off and pick up little one.

Thanks

honestly take him, if a child at Pre-school had it, they wouldn't ban all the children who were in on that day would they? hope your little one is not too poorly with it.

MushroomMagee · 29/04/2012 21:17

I'd take him - isn't the incubation period 3 weeks? You can't really keep him off for that long just in case Hmm

toofattorun · 29/04/2012 21:35

thanks dribble, I will take him in now. DS with Chicken Pox is suffering quite badly with so many itchy spots absolutely everywhere but he does not have a temp (yet) so fingers crossed...

Mushroom I thought the incubation period was about 2 weeks.

...Either way, like you say it's too long to keep him indoors!! Smile
