WTF is Joanna Lumley doing in that M&S advert?

Very annoying. Her silly little gestures and stuff. Can't even describe it, I don't know what she's supposed to be doing.

getting right on my bloody nerves, that is what she is doing...

closely followed by the idiot in the philadelphia ad going on about her "three hungry boys"...

Olympia2012 · 29/04/2012 11:31

The whole advert is annoying!!

kittyandthefontanelles · 29/04/2012 11:33

So glad we haven't got telly. Scrabble anyone?

realhousewifeofdevoncounty · 29/04/2012 11:33

Oh yes, " I don't normally like sweetcorn, but I LOVE it now it is mixed with some soft cheese shite..." Grin

Telly is saving my life this morning. I had migraine last night, it is raining and 'D'H is still in bed.

As an aside I think the worst advert ever was that 'going to do a poo at Paul's' one. Does anyone remember? It was a creepy little kid who thought Paul's bathroom smelt better than his so he went over specially to have a poo.

surely people just take clothes to oxfam now anyway, they don't generally just bin them

is there an incentive in taking them to m and s? that ad didn't say so

realhousewifeofdevoncounty · 29/04/2012 11:44

Yes that one was priceless! I had a friend called Paul who once tweeted "why do all the small children want to do a poo at my house?". Made me chortle, though anyone following him who hadn't seen the ad would be a bit Hmm...

fussbucket · 29/04/2012 11:46

I Hate, Loathe and Despise all squirty airfresheners and even more so since poo at Pauls.
I don't understand the irritating MandS ad - as far as I can make out they're terribly proud to be donating clothes to Oxfam? But my nearest Oxfam is 200 yards away, whereas my nearest MandS is 12 miles - and there's a Hospice shop only 50 yards away. It all feels like 'Look at us aren't we lovely charitable people!'.

realhousewifeofdevoncounty · 29/04/2012 12:54

I've never understood fake air fresheners either. If your house smells so much that it can't be remedied by cleaning it or opening a window, but instead you need to fill it with chemicals that make visitors' eyes water and noses run then you have serious problems! Very hyacinth bucket!

I heard the ad on the radio first and felt sorry for poor old JL trying to get her mouth around the word "scwop". It just makes her sound pissed.

I also don't understand. I also have plenty of charity shops nearby, plus a lot of those big metal clothes banks things. I would rather choose what charity to give old clothes to, rather than have them all go to oxfam, presumably after lugging them past our local branch of oxfam and sitting on the tube with them to take them to M&S.

It's a crap campaign.

squeakytoy · 29/04/2012 13:39

It is an advert masquerading as a "campaign".

They probably hope that when you dump your clothes, you will also be tempted to spend some money...

cornsyilk · 29/04/2012 13:43

What does m&s want to do with them anyway? Recycle them for next year's per una?

BibiBlocksberg · 29/04/2012 14:47

Loathsome ad - so now I'm supposed to schlep into town carrying bags of old clothes? No thanks.

I'm sure the po-faced staff with their oh so superior attitudes in my local m&s would be delighted to rifle through my designer primark cast-offs.

And the term 'schwopping' makes me want to vomit.

LeeCoakley · 29/04/2012 14:55

So why would you take your old clothes to M&S who then give them to Oxfam when (if I have read the M&S shwop page correctly) you can take the clothes directly to Oxfam and get a £5 M&S voucher?

As everyone says, I'd rather just keep taking them to my local charity shop.

MaMattoo · 29/04/2012 14:55

That word made me cringe. Why oh why do we have to create rubbish words to get people's attention. JL looks worryingly fake in the advert. M&S trying to go all
Ethical...hmm.

Mayisout · 29/04/2012 14:56

I want to buy clothes from M&S but it's just so nafff.

My DDs won't go near it so what age is it aimed at?

If they went back to their basic quality stuff it would help alot. Also their long leg trousers are now too short for me.

Fortunately Debenhams is opening soon.

LadySybilDeChocolate · 29/04/2012 14:57

You used to be able to get money off a M&S purchase if you took your old M&S stuff into Oxfam. They are not doing anyone any favours now, are they?

LeeCoakley · 29/04/2012 14:57

Yes I thought she'd had some work done to her face and was making it tricky for her to talk properly.

BBQJuly · 29/04/2012 15:02

I don't mind who's in a M&S advert, as long as it's not Twiggy (that incessant fake smile!) or the miserable-looking sarcastic-faced woman who models some of the clothes on their website videos.

Snowboarder · 29/04/2012 15:13

I thought the whole thing sounded like it had been dreamt up by an overly enthusiastic work experience student on a gap year from their ecology studies degree.

Better surely to offer a voucher from Oxfam for donating clothes there (as they do already according to someone up thread) than asking you for clothes to 'schwop' (shudder) at the point of sale?

Now I'm going to feel bad if I don't take any clothes in with me when I buy something, even though I already take lots of things to Oxfam and my local hospice charity shop.

cornsyilk · 29/04/2012 15:16

What is the point of it all? I saw the ad and just didn't get it. What do they do with the clothes? Why is it a schwop and not a give?
