Has anyone else had this problem? We put the day aside to fill it in and it was like an ordeal.
Kept coming up with asterix's to say dob wrong or address it was a nightmare,we double checked and re entred the info in differnet formays but stil no joy.I am so annoyed as we put the time aside.
Does anyone have advice on the best way to do it,shall i print off a form or order one?

Crikey, can you do it online now? I think the techy problems would just compound the horror for me.

MrsYamada · 28/04/2012 20:12

I guess if you've set aside this time to do it then printing it off would be best.

It is gruelling Sad and takes ages.

WhiteTrash · 28/04/2012 20:23

I called and ordered mine. Or just pick one up from your local job centre.

landofsoapandglory · 28/04/2012 20:28

It's a PITA however you do it. IME it takes a damn sight longer than a day as well!

I bet loads and loads of people give up before they actually get the bloody thing completed and submitted/sent inAngry.

thisisyesterday · 28/04/2012 20:29

you can download it and fill it in on your computer. that's what I did.
was so much easier as I could just keep coming back to it to add bits or change things

MrsYamada · 28/04/2012 20:32

Yep, took me much longer than a day, although I did have to keep popping off to do something less depressing mn for a spell.

ShotgunNotDoingThePans · 28/04/2012 20:42

Cab have advisors trained in filling these in - they'll give you a longer appointment or can sometimes organise a home visit if it's difficult to get to the bureau.

BulletProofMum · 28/04/2012 20:47

I downloaded mine and filled it offline. It took about 6 hours :(

The advantage of having one sent is that they'll back pay to when you called rather then when they receive it.

My husbands took even longer :(

survivingspring · 28/04/2012 21:10

I gave up on the online one too - waited for paper one to come through. Agree is an ordeal however you do it Sad

As suggested above - Cerebra guide is really helpful if you haven't already seen/used it.

Have a Wine

It is several years since I did mine (hard copy) and I still remember the trauma of doing it. I found that thinking about my illnesses and disability in such a concentrated way left me quite depressed. Good luck with it, as well as the online guide if you have a local disability association or advocate they can help too.

Pumpster · 28/04/2012 21:18

Best to phone because then they backdate it.

Tempusfugitinflagrantedelicto · 28/04/2012 21:48

I second what Shotgun said - get an appointment with C.A.B., they tend to get better success rates than if you try yourself (need to obtain form from DLA first)

Groovee · 28/04/2012 22:06

I find it easier online as I can't hold a pen. DH had to fill in my renewal.

ledkr · 28/04/2012 22:08

Thanks very much,i wasnt sure that cab did them.People keep telling us not to fill it in ourselves but we dont know who else will do it.
I will ring for s form and also a cab appointment on Monday and stock up on wine.

Ooo - you can do it online now? I've always had to print DS1's off and fill it in.

It is a real chore - thank God it doesn't have to be done all that often!

RabbitsMakeBrownEggs · 28/04/2012 22:31

I got help to fill in my DLA forms, I just couldn't do it on my own. Although I must say that I didn't think to get a photocopy of it, I will ensure I do that next time.

RabbitsMakeBrownEggs · 28/04/2012 22:32

I got an appointment with the CAB very quickly. They helped me to fill it out and have been very prompt with appointments and letters.

MummyPocPoc · 28/04/2012 22:38

I took 12 hours Shock to fill in DS1's one (HF ASD). It was well worth it. I used the editable PDF version which you can save to your hard drive and fill in in your own time.

DLA child form is far longer than the adult one Hmm

Cerebra guide is indispensable - 60% of new applications for DLA are now refused (I think) due to David Cunting Cameron Hmm and his evil mob.

I didn't even bother to fill it in online, way too much bother.

MummyPocPoc · 28/04/2012 22:39

We were successful first time too, no appeals or tribunals.

Thank you Cerebra Smile

BulletProofMum · 28/04/2012 22:44

I got both approved first time. Dd was in 2 weeks, dh about 3 months.

Hijack question - how often will I need to renew and do the bloody thing again? As others have mentioned thinking about the impact of disabilities in our life's was very hard

littlefirefly · 28/04/2012 22:58

I spent five weeks filling mine out (a little bit every day) - but I got it all backpaid as I phoned up for a form so it was backdated to the date of my phone call. Worth it as he was awarded HRC/MRC, so it really helped us.

I used the Cerebra guide and attached extra pages for every question. It took a long time but I typed all the pages so I have a copy on computer. It's really worth adding as much evidence as you can, I enclosed lots of reports which meant they didn't have to contact my GP or hospital, so the decision came through really quickly. It also meant it was clear that it was a long-term condition (HFA) so they awarded it until DS is 16.

I think the renewal dates just vary according to the individual, I know some parents with HFA children who have to keep renewing every one year, but we were awarded until DS is an adult.
