In thinking going out for a drink is boring

DH just phoned and said we should go out for a drink later tonight, as we have someone staying with us who can look after the DC for a bit.

Now my heart sank as I find the idea of just going to a pub or somewhere and just standing around looking at eachother holding a drink really boring. We are both 47.

Its not my DH's company , as we spend quite a bit of time together and chat happily all the time, so we arent like one of those couples who have nothing to talk about when out. It just seems a bit pointless

Am I BU/just a boring old fart?

Yanbu!!

Svrider · 28/04/2012 15:39

YABU
Pub or home??
Pub everytime

Empusa · 28/04/2012 15:39

YANBU I don't get it either

fallenangle · 28/04/2012 15:40

Yes YABU, glam up a bit lot and make it a date.

WorraLiberty · 28/04/2012 15:41

I'd feel the same if we weren't meeting friends or going for a meal.

If we ever pop out to the pub and it's just us, we play pool.

It's a laugh and it passes the time.

larks35 · 28/04/2012 15:42

YANBU although i would personally love to go out for a drink with just DP - hasn't happened since DC1 conceived 4 years ago!!

What would you like to do? Cinema? Meal? You should take advantage of the sitter.

NowThenWreck · 28/04/2012 15:43

Don't go to a pub. Go to a swing dancing lesson, or Bingo, or a pottery class, or a gig, or a terrible fringe theatre play (good for a laugh), or fabulous restaurant...
I would kill for a night out!

jamdonut · 28/04/2012 15:43

No! I'm 47 , it was my 22nd Wedding Anniversary last weekend. We had a nice meal out, then decided to "go for a drink" after, as we just don't get to go out much. The kids can look after each other, now, because of their ages, but when we'd finished one drink we decided we might as well go home!! It was nice to get out on our own, but being in pubs as a couple just doesn't seem to have the same fascination anymore! lol Blush

NowThenWreck · 28/04/2012 15:44

Yeah! Pool is great! Or darts even!

Imnotbatman · 28/04/2012 15:44

Id like a meal but its going out for a drink after I do the family meal.

God, yes, it is boooring, if DH takes it into his head that he wants us to go for a drink I try to chose a pub with a quiz night or something, or in the daytime we sometimes go to a country pub, take the paper and do the crossword together.

fallenangle · 28/04/2012 15:46

Why not feed the family but not you and DP and then go for a meal.

autumnchild · 28/04/2012 15:47

i'm exactly the same - love going out for meals etc, but just for a drink - no
and i like curling up on sofa too much

LadyBeagleEyes · 28/04/2012 15:48

I'd prefer going out for a meal followed by a couple of drinks at the pub.
That's a real night out, just going to the pub with DP sounds boring, unless your'e meeting up with mates and making a session out of it.

AutumnSummers · 28/04/2012 18:21

We always have much more fun at home with a bottle of jack and out favourite TV than in the pub.

AutumnSummers · 28/04/2012 18:21

*our

Kayano · 28/04/2012 18:30

I went out last night and it was fab. I feel out of the house I can be just Kayano

In the house I feel like Kayano the wife or Kayano the mum or Kayano the facilitator of DHs gaming addiction Wink

AutumnSummers · 28/04/2012 18:36

What we've actually taken to doing is going bowling. Bowling, few drinks and home for more drinks!

CheshireDing · 28/04/2012 18:37

YABU, it's great to just pop to our local for a drink and a chat. Haven't done it on our own since DD turned up 6 months ago though (we have taken her with us).

Before then we would often go for a drink and a pudding Smile

WorraLiberty · 28/04/2012 18:38

I love bowling!

Every time we go with the kids, I keep saying to DH that we should go of a night time without them Grin

TheDetective · 28/04/2012 18:45

YANBU! I can't understand going to the pub as a couple.

I suspect it doesn't help that I don't drink, but I'd be happy going with a bunch of mates, to chat and catch up!

If I was sat there with DP, the conversation would feel forced and silly. We chat loads, but are happy sitting with each other in silence! But would feel a bit daft doing that in a pub!

I'd rather go for a meal, bowling, a bar with music so we can dance, cinema, comedy club etc etc!

AutumnSummers · 28/04/2012 18:50

Worra you really should. It is so much fun! I get bored sitting in the pub with nothing to do but bowling is different- and sunch a laugh if you do it with a wee drink in you :)

AutumnSummers · 28/04/2012 18:51

Not that it's not fun sober (incase anyone jumps on that!)

cybbo · 28/04/2012 18:53

YANBU

Yes going out for a drink with your husband is really boring

Going out with the gals FAR more fun

My heart sinks when my h suggests a trip to the pub

AkhalTeke · 28/04/2012 19:30

not that keen on going for a meal with h either. Munch, munch. Pause. Sip. Stare.

Much rather get a DVD and curry at home.
