I know this is a bit of a tangent, but why do people wear rollers all day? Why don't they just use heated rollers for 15 mins before they go out? Is it to do with hair type?

Empusa · 28/04/2012 19:49

SeaHouses My hair is poker straight and thick and will not hold a curl without keeping rollers in all day.

SeaHouses · 28/04/2012 19:55

Do you heat the rollers first Empusa? Sorry to ask all these questions, but DD has very thick hair and I don't really know how to manage it. Does you put the rollers in just to curl the ends or does it also make the hair look smoother? I've seen women wearing them all day on tv and they take them out in the evening and have totally straight, yet sleek hair.

lisaro · 28/04/2012 19:58

Will they be accesorising pyjamas? (popular with certain types near here) If not, no.

Ohyoubadbadkitten · 28/04/2012 20:19

Ermmm, have I missed some fashion thing? Is straight hair 'in' or curly hair?

Empusa · 28/04/2012 20:44

It depends, but usually I do heat them. I haven't mastered having sleek curls yet Grin I usually end up with something more like this

dementedma · 28/04/2012 22:05

I have short hair which just does its own thing - i don't even own a hairdryer, let alone tongs, straighteners, curlers etc - so I don't really get the hair thing, But I would think you'll look a right tit going to a party in the daytime with rollers in - as the host I would be pretty pissed off. if curls are that important to you, stay home and ummm curl, don't go to the party.

TheFeministsWife · 28/04/2012 22:48

Haha go for it, tis the norm around these parts (in Liverpool) although I've never done it (cos I've already got curly hair Wink).

My DSD went to work with her rollers in this morning as she had a big night out tonight. I was a bit HmmGrin.

SeaHouses · 28/04/2012 22:50

What is her job, TFW?

KateSpade · 28/04/2012 22:54

Please can someone explain to me, what this achieves, is it just volume in the hair and how to do it?

I know its all the rage in Scousewives, im still a bit Hmm

Birdsgottafly · 28/04/2012 23:07

With rollers you can force the hair shaft to lie flat, or blow your hair curly and then put rollers in.

Depends on whether you want big hair or curls. It's also down to how you handle your hair when you take them out.

Seahouses- you cannot achieve the same look and they won't last, if rollers are not left in for at least an hour, after a curly blow. Children don't sweat like adults do and obviously drinking, being in crowds, plays havic with your hair.

More are going for pin curls, because most shops have banned rollers. The girls who are into their hair and eyelashes wouldn't walk round in PJ's, unless their tan hasn't dried.

We understand how important the hair is in Liverpool, so you would be fine going to a day time party with your rollers in.

GHD curls are back in fashion.

SeaHouses · 28/04/2012 23:17

I don't understand your post BGF, and I really want to. I am not being sarcastic.

I don't know what a curly blow is, or a pin curl.

I naturally have the hair of Joni Mitchell. DD naturally has hair like this:

DD

DD is 11 and will be going to secondary school soon. I have no idea what to do in terms of products, rollers or haircuts for her hairtype.

KateSpade · 28/04/2012 23:34

My hair is naturally like that too! Sea. Its half curly half a birds nest.

Thankyou BGF i will be youtubing tutorials, i think. I'll ask my hairdresser nest time i get my extentions put in! Why have most shops banned rollers?
I'm usually really good with hair, but this is something i dont get. My mum always used to tell me to do it, and i'd be like... Hmm why?...

Birdsgottafly · 28/04/2012 23:40

Will she not wear it in a high bun?

A curly blow, is a blow dry round a big brush, into a curl, rather than pulling it straight. Then the hair is put on a roller. It's done a small section at a time. A pin curlis the hair curled and pinned into shape, instead of using rollers.

It depends on what she wants to do with her hair, it's worth buying good shampoo and conditioner, such as tigi.

My hair needs to be long to weigh it down, some people suggest short hait for hair like your DD's, but i think it can make it uncontrolable.

You can buy rollers that you can sleep in, just damp it, before.

She will probably start to take a real interest once she starts senior school and watch the instruction videos on youtube etc.

schroedingersdodo · 28/04/2012 23:41

if someone did that at my DC's party I would take a picture and put on facebook :)

SeaHouses · 28/04/2012 23:53

Thanks BGF, we have already made the mistake of cutting it short to try and manage it. Fortunately it has now grown fairly long which is weighing it down.

Havingaminutespeace · 28/04/2012 23:59

Pitching up in your rollers is going to make you look like a prize idiot. Smile

Is it worth getting dressed either? You might as well go the whole, can't be arsed, hog and slop along in pjs and slippers too.

IAmBooyhoo · 29/04/2012 00:55

well TBF putting rollers in isn't really not being arsed is it. not doing anything to your hair would be not being arsed, but rollers actually takes (me anyway) a shit load of time and concentration.

KateSpade · 29/04/2012 10:49

I think im going to get these sleep in rollers but one more question for the experts. I'm going to put them into my hair before bed, whilst its damp, not soaking wet. Thats right isnt it? Then i was under the impression it sets whilst your hair dries!
