To have expected Ocado to offer some compensation?

We are having a birthday party this afternoon with about 16 guests. I placed a massive order on Ocado for delivery last night, consisting of about £40 wine, £40 household stuff and nappies, and £80 food. What was delivered was a complete shambles. Wine and household were fine, but with the food, we had:
3 packs of cupcakes, each of them damaged
2 cheeses missing
Damaged pack of biscuits
4 packs of tapas missing
Random food we hadn't ordered packed in our bags, eg rice and other cheeses. We gave this back to the driver.

The total figure for damaged or missing food was £27. That's one third of our food order! I called Ocado last night, they will obviously refund us the £27, but they did no offer any compensation. I would have thought maybe they would knock a fiver or tenner off our bill in order to keep our business? I am annoyed as I now have to run around in the shops this morning in the effing rain with a toddler and a baby for replacement food instead of getting ready.

AIBU to think this was really bad service from Ocado and some compensation was in order? A miss rate of 33% on food is really high, no? I don't know if we will keep on using them - I like their range, but the delivery service really lets down.

Two years and six months from the delivery? I don't think so. Grin

I'd be taking my business elsewhere. Sainsbury's messed up repeatedly like this for us and I calculated just earlier today that they have lost about £20-25,000 of business from us since.

FloatingPorpoise · 14/10/2014 20:32

Meant to say - we just shop elsewhere now.

Beats me why folk can't do their own bleeding shopping themselves. We've had legs and taxis and buses forever. Once upon a time there was no such thing as a supermarket delivery service. How some people managed in those days...
FWIW I enjoy doing my food shopping. And I am a man.

Standing by for comebacks.

puntasticusername · 14/10/2014 20:41

AND you are a man?! Shock

Well, well done you Wink

SistersOfPercy · 14/10/2014 20:43

A man who enjoys food shopping AND goes to the supermarket. Goodness all of the ladies on here will be flocking to you in awe, enamoured at your prowess.

or not.

puntasticusername · 14/10/2014 20:48

While you're there, I could do with a nother bottle of wine and a Crunchie. Cheers.

vienna1981 · 14/10/2014 22:26

No prowess. But I genuinely think there must be people who would struggle without the delivery service. Dare I say become reliant on it.

Mine should have delivered yesterday bet 2-3pm. Turned up at 9pm after two phone calls - the second revealed the driver had 'gone home' and having to stay conscious for 7 hours (hard when you have the infamous 'can't get out of bed aching virus') apparently I'm going to get a voucher - hurrah! First world problem but feeling little sorry for myself in bed all week.
