Nursery lost DS birth certificate

DS's nursery lost my DS birth certificate. They say they emptied everything out and can't find it. I'm pretty pissed off to be honest. We need to send it to his school ready for when he starts in Sept. I now have to drive 30 miles to go to the registry to get a new one Angry and pay a tenner for the priviledge. I am a bit soppy and think about it sentimentally too. Am I being a bit precious or would you be pissed off too?

I would be annoyed but surely they should pay for it?

Flisspaps · 26/04/2012 20:36

Why did nursery have it Confused

If they've definitely lost it, they should pay for the replacement.

pointbreak · 26/04/2012 20:36

I would be pissed off. Passport office lost my wedding certificate, so I know how you feel

Safire · 26/04/2012 20:36

I would be very pissed off. YANBU.

fivegomadindorset · 26/04/2012 20:37

phone up and ask for one and they willl post and get the nursrery to pay it or take £10 of your next bill.

And yes I would be pissed off? Why did they have it anyway?

jkklpu · 26/04/2012 20:37

I'd be pissed off but not sentimental. Surely you can get them to pay the fee? And you can order online www.gro.gov.uk/gro/content/certificates/default.asp

Vixxen · 26/04/2012 20:45

I'd get them to pay the fee and re-emburse (sp) your fuel cost (considering the dire state of affairs at the moment!)

I have to admit i am sentimental for the original copy too, but then i'm a massive sap at heart.

redwineformethanks · 26/04/2012 20:46

YABU. We're all human. Mistakes happen. You have plenty of time to order another one. You can order them by post, if not online. I'm sure the nursery will reimburse the cost if they know they lost it. It's a public document which can be ordered by any one, at any time. New one will be exactly the same as the one which was lost. Bigger problems in the world, surely?

LynetteScavo · 26/04/2012 20:48

There is no way I would have given the original (with original date) on to anyone. I know some people will think that's silly, but I really value them.

I have my original BC, and imagine my DM going to register me on that day.

OP, I would not be happy!

HandMadeTail · 26/04/2012 20:53

When you get a replacement, order a spare, as well. I have two copies for each of my DCs, so if one is lost or being used by one organisation, I will always have a second, if needed.

How can they loose a birth cirtificate, it would be fuming as i hold a sentimental value to the original.

Calabria · 26/04/2012 21:24

Some official body managed to cut my elderly mother's birth certificate in half, apparantly rendering it invalid. She has a replacement but like you is very pissed off at losing the original, which had her father's signature on it and to which she was sentimentally attached.

I don't think you're being precious at all.

TidyDancer · 26/04/2012 21:27

I would be pissed off too, definitely, and I completely understand the sentimental aspect of it.

I would certainly expect them to pay for the replacement, though I would hope you wouldn't have to ask.

treas · 26/04/2012 21:38

Invoice them - it will be so satisfying for a change

WhaleOilBeefHookedIWill · 26/04/2012 21:43

The criminal injury association lost mine and I cried knowing my mother got it for me. They then denied ever having it

DesperatelySeekingSedatives · 26/04/2012 22:04

You're not being precious- it is quite an important document after all! Definately get them to pay for it- a tenner's a tenner, but they lost it. As treas said, it will make a nice change giving them a bill for a change! Grin
