Ds (13) has lost his kit for the 3rd time in a row this year

Which consists of

Trainers
Astro turf boots
School logoed top
Shorts
Tracksuits
And the bag for it to all go in

Ds has size 7 feet so no getting kids sizes either

First time we brought name brand stuff which cost loads

Then after theat we went sport and scccor and got umbro cheap stuff

But we just can't bear the cost any more so I have wrote to the pe teacher explains the situation staying he will have the school logoed sports top and the shorts but but we can only stretched to plimsoles and nothing else

Also told teacher whatever punishment he thinks it's is fine with us

I can simply keep buying full pe kit every term we can't afford it Sad

Very cross with ds very cross

Try looking in lost property?

Birdsgottafly · 26/04/2012 17:54

A 13 year old should be punished for losing property, in some circumstances.

However, are you sure that there isn't any bullying going on?

Pandemoniaa · 26/04/2012 17:54

He's 13. Take the cost out of his allowance/pocket money. He might as well learn that there are consequences when he clearly can't be arsed to look after his belongings.

LeeCoakley · 26/04/2012 17:56

The annoying thing is that if they haven't been stolen they will turn up somewhere! I've bought replacement kit only for the original to be found after teachers de-cluttering at end of year. Is there no 2nd-hand uniform shop? Local charity shop sometimes have local schools' kits. I feel your pain.

Calamityboo · 26/04/2012 17:57

I had exactly this with my ds, after checking with the school that there were no issues, and also checking lost property, he was informed that losses were to be paid for out of his allowance. He has now stopped losing so many things.

valiumredhead · 26/04/2012 17:58

Ds has to pay for lost items of uniform from his own money.

Bambino81 · 26/04/2012 17:58

We have this, but not through lost clothes, it's more cause I'm pretty sure my DD has decided to be a giant when she is older. She has size 6.5 feet and is the tallest girl in her year (she's 9)

So I feel your pain, it's expensive, and p.e kits are prob the most expensive as well.

Do try lost property to and make sure clothes are really clearly marked, try and mark straight onto material where you can ( sure there maybe a case of wondering fingers)

Maybe also deduct an amount out of your DS pocket money?

diabolo · 26/04/2012 17:59

Have you checked lost property?

Children will tell you they have looked for stuff when they haven't and have no intention of doing so - it's a fact of life.

We had a mum in today complaining that someone must have stolen her DS's kit as he had spent a week looking for it but couldn't find it. The administrator went off to the sports complex with her and found the bag hanging on a peg, within 2 minutes.

Confused
LadyBeagleEyes · 26/04/2012 18:00

Three times this year and it's only April?
I think you should be teaching your ds to take more care of his property.
There's no way I'd keep paying out for my ds's carelessness.

MissFaversham · 26/04/2012 18:13

If I listed every item that my DS has lost over the years I'd still be tapping away until dawn breaks.

He's just one of these people that has his head up his arse in the clouds Grin

Sallyingforth · 26/04/2012 18:29

It's not doing him any favours to just keep buying replacements. He's got to learn to look after his stuff otherwise he will just keep on doing it.
Are you certain he isn't being bullied?

planetpotty · 26/04/2012 18:32

Lost property for him - he should be able to keep hold of his stuff.

supernannyisace · 26/04/2012 18:35

Hah! My DS used to lose something everyweek.

Once he came home from swimming without his shirt! He just had his school jumper on...

After a number of bollockings he seems to now manage to bring home his full kit. In fact he has had the same p.e. kit since starting year 7 - and is now in year 9 (obv not shoes as his feet do grow, but the special sports socks in school colours, rugby shirt - again school colours...).

there is always the slight fear though that he is maybe being bullied - as other posters have suggested - and he isn't actually losing it?

Mrbojangles1 · 26/04/2012 18:36

hi ladies
right

he id defo not being bullied in his school they don't have lockers they have a cubby hole in each class so they take their stuff out and put the bag in the cubby hole to prevent fiddling ect and the sneaking of mobile phones
ds cant be arse to carry round his pe kit for the whole day and leaves it in the pe hall and intends to go back at the end of the day to which its not their (i know this is a dreadful attitude towards kit) angered me more than you know

also he only gets £4 a week so if he paid for it it would takes weeks to get the money for the kit and to be fair we tried that last time garnishing is pocket money yet here we are Angry

i had enough told ds i hope they make him do it in vest and pants like in my day i soooo frigged off

As a teacher, May I just applaud Bojangles for her actions? So sick of parents who try to get their kids out of richly deserved punishments and who think that their 16 year olds are basically toddlers to be coddled, by them at home and by us at school.

Big ups to Bojangles! Your lad will turn out just fine in the end as you clearly understand how to deal with him.

MissFaversham · 26/04/2012 18:44

They all go the same place as socks Grin
