AMBU not to tip the Domino Pizza delivery guy?

As a special request by my DS we ordered pizza for a treat. We waited 50 mins for it to arrive. For this reason I didn't give a tip. I partly feel guilty but surely tips are for good service are they not?

I usually pay by card so don't tip. I think tipping is something that should be done for exceptional service, or it becomes worthless and expected even when no effort has been made. I don't like being made to feel like I should tip because a company that charges me £15 for one sodding pizza doesnt pay decent wages.

VonHerrBurton · 26/04/2012 11:47

I agree Birds - totally. North West here too. Wouldn't dream of not tipping a delivery person a quid or so, I am surprised at this thread. Our Dominos are great and tell us how long it will be.

Similarly though, if it took 50 mins to arrive and/or I wasn't happy with it for whatever reason, I would call and speak to the Manager and voice my issues.

degroote78 · 26/04/2012 11:51

I don't tip for any takaways (unless its £9.50 and you give them £10 and say keep the change but I don't really consider that tipping). I tip in restaurants as you have been provided with a service. Maybe I'm a bit mean, just never something I've thought to do.

steben · 26/04/2012 11:52

I don't tip because frankly I think Domino's/Pizza Hut are expensive enough. However I do usually give the chinese man a quid or so...

trikken · 26/04/2012 11:56

We dont tip.

WilsonFrickett · 26/04/2012 11:56

I round up or tip a pound if I've paid by card, but only if it comes within a reasonable time and is hot when it arrives. And I'm Scottish!

theodorakis · 26/04/2012 14:02

I think we get that it was a rare treat and not your usual dinner fare. Sad that people have to caveat that to stop a flaming.

theodorakis · 26/04/2012 14:04

Why does the Chinese man get a tip and not the others? It's a tough job whoever does it, for whatever company.

NoOnesGoingToEatYourEyes · 26/04/2012 14:21

Don't Dominos charge £5.00 for delivery anyway? If we order from there were collect so I'm not sure, but I think ours usually charges a £5.00 delivery fee so I would not tip if we asked them to deliver. And to be honest the only reason we ever use Dominos is because they give a very generous Forces Discount, otherwise everything is ridiculously overpriced anyway and they don't even do sweet chilli dip anymore Hmm.

I do tip the driver if we have takeaway delivered from anywhere else though.

MissFaversham · 26/04/2012 14:27

I'm also a "tipper" no matter what, as said these people are on very low wages and rely on it.

knowitallstrikesagain · 26/04/2012 14:51

Yanbu you wouldn't tip the refuse collectors for emptying your bin or the cashier in the supermarket for packing your bags, so why tip for a meal

I do give the binmen cash at Christmas. I pack my own bags at the checkout. But I only tip for above and beyond service for example if Domino's man had fed me the pizza buck naked while singing to me

YANBU not to tip. People should be paid a fair wage instead of propped up by the public. Otherwise you really should tip everyone on minimum wage or just above. Not sure how you would go about doing that though...

CallMeAl · 26/04/2012 14:52

They should be paid a fair wage. They aren't though.

Poulay · 26/04/2012 15:13

Dominos charges extra for delivery anyway, I wouldn't tip.

Poulay · 26/04/2012 15:14

Don't you 'tip' people think the people making the pizzas are on shitty low wages too? Do you tip them, if you pick it up in store?

MeKathryn · 26/04/2012 15:16

It never occurred to me to tip. I'm in the should be paid enough camp though.

knowitallstrikesagain · 26/04/2012 15:17

People not being paid a fair wage is not down to me. I do not earn enough myself to feel bad about other people having a low wage. Therefore I will not tip people because their employer does not pay them enough.

BettySwollocksandaCrustyRack · 26/04/2012 15:41

We're supposed to tip for take aways! Whoops Blush - never have - I reckon it's factored into the price anyway so dont think I'll start either.

I let them keep the change if its not much. I always feel guilty if I dont tip for some reason.

mumeeee · 26/04/2012 18:16

I don't usually tip the delivery person although I do sometimes say keep the change.

happyhopefulmummy · 26/04/2012 18:53

I would always tip the delivery person; if I order online and pay with card I give him a quid at the door. I don't tip hairdressers or beauty therapists...but I always feel bad!

ShadowsCollideWithPeople · 27/04/2012 03:27

Don't you 'tip' people think the people making the pizzas are on shitty low wages too? Do you tip them, if you pick it up in store?

Yup, I know the people making pizzas in store are on 'shitty low wages'. If I pick up my pizza in-store, I usually leave about ?5 tip on the counter. Why do you ask?
