To complain about the school disco?

Before anyone tells me to sign up for the PTA myself if I think I can do a better job, I have done Wink

Last night was DS's school disco. Started at 6.30, until 7.30 so one hour. The teachers spent the first ten minutes talking over the microphone telling the kids what they could/couldn't do so that took up until 6.40.

Then, the bit I am extremely Hmm about is the music that the DJ played for reception kids. His repertoire included that fuckawful Sexy and I Know It song and other things not really suited to entertaining 5 year olds.

Then the lights came on at 7.20 to get them out so that Years 1 and 2 could get in!

I LOVE LMFAO
Maybe they should just have played Party rock anthem by them instead (but I still love Sexy and I know it)

Perhaps not the best choice for a kiddie disco. However it is played on virtually all the mainstream music radio stations both local and national here and abroad so there isn't much getting away from it.

Going off on a tangent do you know that Red Foo is Berry Gordy's son? I only found that out the other month!!

Yanbu, I heard shaggys it wasn't me piped loudly at. Mc Donald's party, we weren't attending but could hear so complained to the spotty 22 year old (looking) manager, he looked amazed I said it was innapropriate.

Some people are mental!!

I play that song at full blast in my car!
TBF, DD is 10, and though it wouldn't have bothered me at 5, I know it would've bothered some parents so wouldn't have played it when they were around.

Chopstheduck · 24/04/2012 15:48

My dts know every word to it. They are year 2. I think you are overeacting a bit. Most kids will have heard it all before. As long as any actual swearing is censored I think it is fine.

My dts loved Cee Loo Green's Forget You last year, would sing along to it, but were absolutely gobsmacked when they heard the real version driving round somewhere in mainland Europe last year! Grin

And my 9 year old sang LFMAO Sexy and I know it and stripped off for the School Talent show last week. Grin

I must admitted I was suprised when driving round Spain in March listening to the radio and the unedited version of Sak Noel's Loca People was played (all the time)

my friend said they don't have the same hang up with the word fuck over there. Just seemed weird. Uk radio censor it and I had only heard it played in full in clubs or on the net.

Our school plays party style songs for the younger ones 3.30 until 4.45 and more up to date stuff for the older ones 5 until 6.30.

doublechocchip · 24/04/2012 16:11

yanbu I love these songs but for an hours childrens disco (more so the younger age group) there are literally so many songs they could choose that are more appropriate. Im quite relaxed about a lot of things, but I turn a lot of songs over on the radio when Im with the kids (mainly seems to be Rihanna!)

BBQJuly · 24/04/2012 17:02

YANBU. Agree with doublechocchip there are many other songs out there they could have chosen instead.

Our DJ is strictly vetted and basically plays all of the Black Lace album (cira 1980's!)
Superman, agadoo etc

Prizes for best dancer, tuck shop and they all love it (spend more time in tuck shop than in disco though!Grin)

Scholes34 · 24/04/2012 17:20

The choice of music probably wasn't appropriate for a disco for this age, but my 3 year old niece likes dancing to that (BT Vision music videos, rather than her nursery's disco) and she reminds me of Little Miss Sunshine.

Ah, Black Lace, who sang that charming song "We're having a gang bang, were having a ball, we're having a gang bang, against the wall" Confused
