We took out a travel policy with them for a ski trip, paid extra for winter cover, etc. They're regulated by the FSA so you assume they'll be ok, etc. Looked at cover amounts, etc and it was all good.

DD had an accident skiing and was evacuated off the piste by piste rescue which is expensive - £500 expensive. She was taken to hospital in resort where a Dr poked her arm, said it wasn't broken and charged us another £50. We were given an invoice by the hospital which does state her name and the fact her arm was examined. We have an invoice from teh piste rescue.

The insurance won't pay out as apparantly we should have an indepth medical report. We were in the hospital for less than 10 minutes.

I've told the insurance company that I don't see why a medical report is needed because at the end of the day it doesn't matter whetehr she broke her neck, arm, etc or it was a sprain. We are covered for all of that so they need to pay.

I've even said I'll let them off the £50 hospital bill as long as they pay the £500 piste rescue but they won't budge. I don't have a hospital report.

What the hell can I do?

Its not as if we are claiming for £1000s for expensive medical bills in which case I could understand a bit more. But it can't get cheaper than £50 for a hospital bill, surely.??? And piste rescue is the same price no matter what you've done.

Bastards.

I'm busy compiling an exceedingly snotty complaint. Which I shall also copy AXA in on as they underwrite the policy.

eVEven their own policy states "you must provide and receipts relating to expenses/charges incurred".

It says nothing about needing medical reports so I don't see they have a leg to stand on.

You have my sympathies. Hope you get it sorted out!

To make you smile, I stopped using them after I rang them last year and was doing the endless 'medical screening' bit - specifically relating to surgery in the previous two years:

Me: My husband had a vasectomy last year
Flexicover: An operation?
Me: Yes a vasectomy
Flexicover: Has he been fully discharged?
Me (desperately ignoring possible smutty innuendo): Yes
Flexicover: What were the symptoms that required the surgery in the first place?
Me: Ummm, that's not really relevant is it?
Flexicover: yes, what symptoms did your husband have that meant he needed a vasectomy?
Me: Umm - we've got a son and though he's pretty damn gorgeous we decided we didn't want another?
Flexicover: I'm sorry, can you repeat that please, was the vasectomy on your husband or your son [who they knew was aged 6 as we'd just done his screening]
Me: Seriously, don't bother, I'll go elsewhere

I've written this to emai lthem, what do you think?

I recently took out the above travel insurance policy for a ski trip to France. Towards the end of our holiday my daughter had an accident, was evacuated off the piste and taken to hospital. We have an invoice from the piste security for the 500euros we had to pay them and another invoice from the hospital for the 50euros we paid them.

The piste security took her directly to the hospital as they were concerned she?d broken her arm. We were only at the hospital approx 10 minutes and the Dr gave her a quick examination and declared it was a sprain and it didn?t require an x-ray. Hence why the hospital bill is so cheap.

You?re company are refusing to settle the claim as we have no medical report. We weren?t given any medical report. On your own policy it states that we must provide ?any receipts or bills for any expenses/charges?. I can not see anything about having to have a medical report. So if your own policy doesn?t state this is needed I don?t see how on earth you can refuse to pay especially when we were never given a report. The receipts themselves should be more than enough and I think any court in the land would agree with me.

I could understand you needing a medical report if there had been in-depth treatment, etc but we are talking about a 50euro bill ? I doubt you will get a cheaper hospital bill. I?m astounded that your call centre person states that not even the piste security cost can be refunded without a medical report. It shouldn?t matter why my daughter had to be evacuated off the piste ? if the piste security said she had to be then she had to be. Whether it was a fracture, sprain, etc is irrelevant.

I took this policy out with you and I expect it to be settled. I will take this all the way of taking you to court and complain to the FSA if this is not resolved speedily.

Regards

I would prefix the para starting "your company" with - we have provided you with copies of the bill from x and y (enclosed), but your company..."

I am an insurance lawyer. Looks good, though you may wish to avoid emotive language such as "why on earth". If they still refuse to pay out, PM me and I will help you with further correspondence.

VivaLeBeaver · 23/04/2012 16:01

Great, thanks. I'm beyond furious and wrote it in a hurry. Grin

I've just looked at their online mdical claim form and even that just says to enclose recipts, doesn't say anything about a medical report.

Surely they haven't got a leg to stand on?
