i was wondering what time those of you who got milk delivered got their milk delivered? we used to buy at supermarket but milkman knocked on our door a few years ago and asked if we wanted him to deliver, support your local business and all' that so we said yes. it used to get delivered at around 5am (i go to work about this time so would always see delivery around this time) BUT they have sold business to a different person and now it gets delivered around 9:45am....which is a bit late for breakfast so defeats the object. just wondered really (don't know if i should cancel and go back to supermarket or say anything, i don't like to be confrontational/say anything although might...)

Milk and more. Alway comes about 6am so plenty of time for breakfast. After 9 would be no good to me as it would be sitting on the step all day till i got home from work.

GruffVoiceDownTheChimney · 22/04/2012 18:33

Ours is 4.30/5am. I would have to say something/cancel if it came that late as then it would sit out all day & be yuck by the time we got home!

doinmummy · 22/04/2012 18:34

I recently agreed to have milk delivered. I was made to feel a bit guilty about not supporting our local milkman.
The delivery time was fine about 7 am but it cost too much so I cancelled it after about 6 weeks.
If the delivery time doesn't suit you I'd cancel.

At our previous house the milk was delivered by 430am everyday. Our new milkman was anytime between 4am and 830am. It got to be a right pain so we cancelled it. We just left a note out and gave him a weeks notice. Both milkmen were from Milk and More.

AllotmentLottie · 22/04/2012 18:37

Ours is a private guy and comes at around 3 am. He tells me so anyway, have never been up to see! Have had him eight years, but only met him once when he knocked on the door to congratulate us when we moved house.

Cancelled our local paper delivery when it got too late though.

stoatie · 22/04/2012 18:37

Don't have it delivered but next door does so know that it usually around 6.30 (as I am getting ready for work)

timetosmile · 22/04/2012 18:40

Ours comes about 5.30ish. Also eggs and fruit juice. And cheaper than Tesco. And has a cheery whistle and wholesome ruddy face though not at 5.30

i hadn't thought about the fact that if we both worked (away from home) then with his delivery time the milk would go off (in the summer) but dh works from home as do i (although i keep weird hours). if he continues to delivery really late i will have to cancel although i know i will avoid doing this as will feel awkward but i do think it stinks delivering so late. i can't imagine most other people would be too thrilled either, bet he loses alot of customers

Really early - about 4.30 I think. I asked the same question when we signed up because 9.45 would be no good for me either, because we're all out all day.

tazzle · 22/04/2012 18:42

between midnight and 2 am . I have insomnia so hear it Wink

BsshBossh · 22/04/2012 18:44

Dairy Crest. 5.30/6am. If my milkman could not deliver early them we'd have to cancel as we'd go to work and milk would go off left out all day.

BsshBossh · 22/04/2012 18:45

We get juice and eggs too.

ginmakesitallok · 22/04/2012 18:45

Why on earth would you feel guilty about cancelling?

carabos · 22/04/2012 18:47

I cancelled the doorstep delivery because he was coming at 3am and waking up the whole street - followed about an hour or do later by the newspaper delivery Angry.

HecateTrivia · 22/04/2012 18:48

I have got no idea. But it's always on the doorstep by the time I get up and remember to look, which can be anywhere between 6am and 820am when I open the door to take the kids to school and see the milk on the step Grin

945 is taking the piss. Many people are at work by then. What happens to milk left on the step all day - especially in the summer?

I'd cancel it and I'd be telling them why. You don't take on a milk delivery and then deliver it that late and expect to keep your customers!

Inneedofsanity · 22/04/2012 18:49

We got guilted into it and were promised early deliveries on whichever days were convenient for us. Actually, it was always delivered later than we needed, andhe didnt deliver down our road on tues and thurs like I wanted! Stuck it out for 6 months but cancelled in the end. Also he always called for the money at a time I was out so it built up.
I went back to getting it from the co op!

turningvioletviolet · 22/04/2012 18:50

ours is Dairy Crest - comes at 5.45ish. I know what you mean about feeling guilty about cancelling though. I am on first name terms with our milkman (Rod for info) and always have a little chat (usually about thegym - he goes to the same one as me) when he comes for his money. Would feel horrible if I cancelled - but then again if he came at 9.45 i would have to say something.

ClaireAll · 22/04/2012 18:51

We use Milk & More, and the delivery is around 4am.

I like that you can order before 9.30pm the night before for quite a wide range of staples.

BikeRunSki · 22/04/2012 18:51

No idea when ours arrives. It is always there when I go get it about 7am and I have heard the milkman in three years. I love having my milk delivered.

LadySybilDeChocolate · 22/04/2012 18:51

I used to use milk and more. I used to leave the house at 8am, not back until 6pm and it was rare if it was delivered before then. On my days off it was delivered at 11am, useless! The bread was always stale and I remember being delivered 7 bottles of milk (to cover me for the Christmas period I assume) but all went out of date the following day.

bitofcheese · 22/04/2012 18:54

gin because i am a sensitive twat! because it is a small business (as opposed to one of the big well known ones) i would feel kind of sorry for him, like deserting him. i know it sounds bloody stupid but i know how my mind works. i am the sort of idiot who would rather force down the most disgusting food in a restaurant rather than complain to the waiter/manager..

bitofcheese · 22/04/2012 18:56

funny, but i used to always see the milkman when i set off for work at around 4:30am/5 depending on where i was driving but now all i see is the odd shifty van creeping up and down the road looking to see if there is any metal in the front garden to pinch for scrap...
