To wonder if DP and DD share a gene that stops them finding things?

Things that are right in front of them in plain view after they've been told where it is?

Example, DP asked for a T shirt to wear in bed as he was cold. I told him there was one in his drawer. He turned it upside down but could not find a single t shirt. i got out of bed picked up one of a pile of 6 T shirts and handed it to him.

DD asked for her ballet bag this morning. I said its hanging on hook on door in spare room DD goes in says its not there spends 15 minutes hunting the house and finally I walk into the spare room and pick ballet bag off the hook on back of spare room door (the ONLY thing on any hook)

The list could go on for ever - shoes, coats, clothes, toys, laptops, remote controls. They ask where it is, I tell them, they can't find it despite moving to exact location, I walk over and pick it up for them.

Yes I think it's genetic. DD1 & DH are continuously losing things, DD2 & I know where everything is. I help look or tell them where something is if I know. So does DD2 and she's only 3. This morning DH was looking for his shoes and when he found them, DD2 said "oh, you found your shoes!! Well done, Daddy!" in the most patronizing tone I have ever heard a 3yo use.

Yes - it's genetic. The particular gene has been identified as A1LAZY.

My DD & DS share a gene that means that they are unable to change the empty toilet roll they inheirt it from their Dad.

mayaswell · 21/04/2012 17:31

Depressingly familiar. Especially when the laziness extends to personal neglect, eg (to Dd)did you have lunch?
Her No, we don't have anything.
Didn't you want the ham or the turkey in a sandwich? I open fridge door to look at shelves containing ham, cheese, turkey etc.
Her, No there is none left.
???????

GreatGretzky · 21/04/2012 17:31

I think my DH and DS1 have that gene as well

BusinessTrills · 21/04/2012 17:32

No, they share a disease called "someone else will do this for me". The only cure is for someone else to not do it for them, until they learn to do it themselves.
