To want to complete "pointless" GCSEs?

I'm at university at the moment doing a degree. When I qualify however I want to do an English GCSE just for the hell of it. I know it's pointless and won't mean anything (I already have an English GCSE at a grade C) but I want to do it to prove to myself that I can get an A. Obviously I would be paying for it myself and intend to do it over distance learning as I'll be working.

So it won't effect anyone else. It's just for my own personal ego I think! Am I being ridiculous?

BrigitBigKnickers, that must have been so upsetting. I wonder what happened to that teacher? Having the whole class fail must have been noticed and somewhat frowned upon?!

My bad E grade was of course quite fair but I like to think I was "up against it" at the time. I was also unprepared for the jump between GCSE's and A Levels.

It's so odd and yet quite touching how it still bothers us after all these years. I did my degree after giving some new A levels subjects a shot but I still remember looking at that E and asking the lady at the desk to double check it! Innocent me!

I'd love to do A-level art! I wanted to do it at 6th form, but it wouldn't timetable in with the others. Maybe a group of us could get together... there must be a techer on here, I'm sure.

*teacher, even.

The teacher carried on working there for many years after- it was in the days where if the teacher says it was the pupils faults then it was. When she realised "our" mistake she said the sylabus had been up on the wall (pointing to very scrappy piece of paper buried on a notice board) and that it had been up to us to look at it and make sure we had the correct course work...

She was also the only teacher who ever made me cry at school (as a VI former tooBlush) Nasty old bint she was- I think she got into quite alot of trouble over the incident as the head of VI form complained about her on my behalf and she was as nice as pie after that (two faced old cow.)

As it turned out the uni I went to had given me a virtually unconditional offer so I was able to do the course I wanted and ended up with a great degree.

She could so easily have ruined everything...

It would be pointless, GCSEs are a challenge for undeveloped minds being trained to think like a adult. You already are an adult, so where is the challenge?

I'm an art teacher, Breastmilk... and for a small fee... Wink
