Hi there - posting here as it's one of my favourite sections has a lot of visitors hopefully Grin

DS had new shoes beginning of September 2011. This week I realised the stitching had come undone on one seam causing a large hole.

I had the receipt took them back to shop today and after some discussion the ladies said they would replace them like for like - same size etc which I was perfectly happy with as they still fit well etc and I went away happy.

DS has just tried them on and they're too small :( The velcro straps don't fasten and they're too tight and are no good. I never thought to get him to try them on in the shop just thought they'd be identical. Now realise style has changed slightly, different straps, some new like ventilation hole in front etc. Whatever do you advise I do now?

BTW the ladies did not give me a receipt for these so now don't have one.

I wish I got 8 months of use fom my kids shoes before wear and tear became apparent Grin

FourEyesGood · 19/04/2012 21:18

Six months? Bloody hell, they lasted well! Sell the new ones on eBay and buy some bigger ones with the money.

cocobongo · 19/04/2012 21:19

take them back, say you don't have a receipt but need bigger size. they are obviously brand new and clarks branded, so presume there would be no issue changing them.

having said that, i think you were lucky to get replacement shoes in april for ones you bought in september! Smile

FourEyesGood · 19/04/2012 21:19

Ahem. Of course, I mean almost eight months. I counted the months on my fingers and got it wrong. Blush

marriedinwhite · 19/04/2012 21:22

I think that's pretty good going actually. I think they might have been having a laugh at the cheek of it. Count your blessings and buy the lad a new pair.

LIZS · 19/04/2012 21:23

Leather shoes stretch over time so that size may still have fitted having been worn in for so long but the new ones would be too tight.

rhondajean · 19/04/2012 21:25

You took a pair of seven month old worn kids shoes back to complain about a bit of loose stitching?

Really?

Were they in perfect condition apart from that, no wear on the soles or anything??

SingingSands · 19/04/2012 21:26

Um, September was quite a long time ago! However, despite the passage of time and your son's growing feet I think Clarks are terrible quality these days, plasticy rubbish, overpriced and badly made.

Mspontipine · 19/04/2012 21:29

I thought that too about stretching with age but the straps do seem shorter and they are slightly different - the vent holes etc - DS says the heel feels higher (they don't have a toy in them) It's so annoying I never thought to compare them with the originals - I was just pleased to get it sorted and call me old fashioned but I expect a pair of shoes that cost around £35 to last at least until he grows out of them. The soles, toes etc are fine - he does run around in them but only wears them for school and doesn't play football.

Whilst we are Clarks bashing, can I add that I hate those shoes with bloody dollies in them.Whose idea was that? They are about £10 more expensive than the ones without dollies. Total rip off. Rant over- I'll get my coat!

vess · 19/04/2012 21:35

The shoes I got from there for DD1 started falling appart much sooner than that - they lasted about a term. Didn't know you can still return them, good to know.

StateofConfusion · 19/04/2012 23:15

take them back and say they must have been fitted incorrectly, ensure different staff ofc.

fwiw, my dcs have always had clarks shoes, i always get a good 10mnths out of them, ds school shoes were brought in september and still look and fit fine. Dds winter boots she got a year ago now and again fit and look fine.

Mspontipine · 19/04/2012 23:57

It's a very small shop in a small town - I'm thinking they'll be there - and definately remember me Blush

I mean I'm thinking the same ladies will be there.

Give up on Clarks - the fitters don't seem to know what they're doing for one thing. Start Rite are much better.

5madthings · 20/04/2012 00:14

i think 8mths is pretty good going actually but if they offered to exchange them and gave you a pair that dont fit i would go back.

dont buy clarks tho as they dont do any wide enough for my boys feet!

Hopandaskip · 20/04/2012 04:15

My kids never seemed to last anywhere near that long in shoes. I would be dancing in the street if they had had shoes fit for 8months when they were in kid sizes! One time ours lasted 5 weeks before we needed new ones.

Mspontipine · 20/04/2012 23:41

Hi-thanks for all the responses on here. Just to update on this.
I went back this morning and luckily they still had his original shoes. It would appear that they were the same model - no changes when compared the two!! Dep manager was there and said hole had happened because he had grown out of them Blush

I still maintain he was perfectly comfy in them!! What she said was she could offer me 20% off a new pair. I know I could have maybe sold the new pair they'd given me for more than this discount was worth on ebay or maybe even chanced my luck at exchanging them in another store but would have looked a bit of a tit saying well actually I choose to take away these too small for my ds but brand new shoes away from you again thank you very much and never dare darken their door again!! so took ds back - he is 1 full size larger than the returned shoes and got a lovely new pair and am £31 the poorer (but not £38)

So I would say a good service. Was chuffed when walked away with new pair of shoes but no good if way too small!!!

However my good news today is that JL have price matched my Meile hoover so can get one for under £150 when, only days ago, when I was about to purchase one all the ones that were £149 were suddenly returned to full price of £199 - I didn't have the cash when they were £149 so now I can treat myself!!

and secondly some lovely foreign accented Meerkats have managed to save me £100 to renew my car insurance Grin

swings and roundabouts Smile

i took some clarks shoes back that where toddler shoes that ds had worn about 6 times, no reciept because a piece actually fell off them, they where more than happy to swap them and they actually fitted him with a new pair just to make sure he was the same size,

also taken some back that where clarks but from an independent stockist he was falling in them, they had measured him 1 1/2 sizes too big but because he'd only worn them indoors they let me return them

i dont think i'd take back any shoes 3m+ old though
