It's the best one as far as I can tell and I know we will use it a lot, I really want to kick start my health plan.
AIBU though? Has anyone got any experience of good ones that don't cost the earth?

and can juice ginger, whole lemons etc?

Do you have £320?
Juicers are a con IMO. You need to spend a lot of fruit and veg in order to get a teeny amount of juice.
Why don't you just eat the fruit and veg you'd use for juicing?

OTTMummA · 19/04/2012 13:13

If you don't have the money don't get it, save up and in the meantime you can slice ginger and lemon and add to hot water, which is lovely and healthy.

Cherriesarelovely · 19/04/2012 13:14

I agree #Dogeared* plus cleaning them can be a right faff!

StripyMagicDragon · 19/04/2012 13:14

Agree with DogEared. Juicers are a waste of time IMO, you would get more nutrients and volume eating the fruit and veg. You don't yet much out of them. So YABU to buy a juiced on credit. It's not necessary.

Pandemoniaa · 19/04/2012 13:16

If you have to use your credit card to buy it then absolutely no. Even if you don't, £320 is a ridiculous amount of money to pay for something that requires an orchard's worth of fruit to produce a dribble of juice. And then takes ages to clean.

In my experience, juicers usually end up in the same kitchen appliance graveyard that the breadmaker and food processor lives in.

Busybusybust · 19/04/2012 13:16

I bought my daughter one for about £70.00 for her birthday. It does the job very well.

knowitallstrikesagain · 19/04/2012 13:16

YABU. Over the years I have bought juicers, gym memberships, exercise clothes and gear, fancy vitamins etc all at great expense to 'kick start' my health plan.

You will not use it.
You will not clean it.
Buy fruit, veg and go for a walk.

Lovetats · 19/04/2012 13:16

YABU, sorry. I love a gadget but that much money is daft IMO.

I've got a Jack LaLane juicer which was about £100 and it's fab but a ruddy nightmare to clean.

I agree that the best way to get more vitamins/fibre etc is to just eat the fruit and veg - otherwise you'll be consuming loads more calories and not feeling as full (I heart Slimming World).

exexe · 19/04/2012 13:17

I've got a juicer and I used it enthusiastically for a while and then I realised that juicing is a waste of money. So much of the fruit is wasted. Especially all of the fibre. You are better off eating the fruit.
It is good for using up some manky bits of fruit but you don't need an expensive juicer for that.

exexe · 19/04/2012 13:18

Oh and I use my breadmaker and food processor all the time!

Sandalwood · 19/04/2012 13:19

I wouldn't either.
A blender's useful for smoothies etc.

Doyouthinktheysaurus · 19/04/2012 13:21

Don't bother, juicers are crap.

We spent a fair bit on ours but it spent more time gathering dust than anything else.

We gave itnto a charity shop in the end.

Callisto · 19/04/2012 13:21

I've got a fab juicer that gathers dust on one of my work surfaces. It was bought by my mum who used it a couple of times and then gave it to me and I used it a couple of times. It is a pain in the arse to clean and I have discovered that I prefer to eat fruit and veg than to drink it. Perhaps you are using the lack of juicer as an excuse to not eat healthily?

Oh and £320 is ludicrously expensive btw.

blapbird · 19/04/2012 13:22

wow okay I think I'll rethink that one then, thanks Smile

I wouldn't mind getting a cheaper one but if I cant juice celery and stuff I don't see the point

halcyondays · 19/04/2012 13:25

I think juicers are one of those things that sound like a great idea but you only ever use them about twice. Maybe you could get one on Freecycle.

I'm sure they're nice to have, but you could just eat fruit and veg to be healthy. Or buy a cheap blender and make smoothies.

Callisto · 19/04/2012 13:40

Sorry, but why the fuck would you juice celery? Can't you just use it in cooking - soup, stews, pasta sauce? Or just eat it as it is?

redrubyshoes · 19/04/2012 13:43

Bought a juicer. Used it twice. Cleaned the faffing thing twice. Gave it away.

I now just eat fruit.

tinkertitonk · 19/04/2012 13:44

Our house was big on carrot juicing at one time.

1: Carrot juice is vile.

2: It leaves horrible orange stains.

3: It generates a vast amount of residue that the servants resented having to deal with.

4: Er, that's it. There is nothing positive.

Callisto · 19/04/2012 13:46

Sorry, my last sounded rather aggressive, it was meant to sound Shock.

Lovetats · 19/04/2012 13:57

I used to juice broccoli :o

CrazyChicken · 19/04/2012 14:03

Have you tried the juice? I bought one thinking I'd use it loads but the juice was vile!

MrsHoarder · 19/04/2012 14:12

The only nice juices are those from sweet juicy fruits imo. So get a basic food processor and if you find yourself wanting "juice": make a smoothie. In the meantime, you can be making lovely soups etc with veg which will get you far more of the fibre/vitamins from the veg without speing lots of money on gadgets you don't need.

ErikNorseman · 19/04/2012 14:15

On a credit card??? YABU

redrubyshoes · 19/04/2012 14:28

Or buy V8 juice from the supermarket - that has celery in and makes a really good stock for vegetable soup as well.

blapbird · 19/04/2012 14:31

Yes I have tried the juice and I love it and I lost 7 lbs in 7 days, it works for me I'm not disputing juicing as I love it, but the price is what bothers me.
