I have just seen a post on my local forum asking for a particular wardrobe from a particular shop in a particular finish ... and I just want to send them a message saying are you taking the actual piss?

I understand perfectly the need to furnish your home for nothing or next to nothing at all, I have done it myself when I was younger, but surely you have a trawl through what is available, not make actual up-front fucking requests?

Have a look here for loads of grabby FC posts:

Some are unbelievable! Grin

I love FC!!

YANBU!

Although I admit that I love to sit and have a chuckle and a bit of bitch to DH about the cheek of some of the posts.

Last month someone posted on ours looking for a pram and there was a whole list of criteria that the item must fulfill!!! It had to be either an iCandy, bugaboo or quinny, had to be in excellent condition, from a smoke and pet free house and to top it all off the person giving it away had to be able to deliver. It disappeared fairly quickly so I'm guessing there were complaints lol!

I never ceases to amaze me the cheek and brass neck of some people.

Yes it annoys me too. I think the etiquette of these things is that you should offer something before you ask for something but ours is mainly cheeky requests.

On another note, my sisters neighbour who lives in the SW offered some stuff on FC. Several (sorry) "Travellers" turned up and collected the item. A few days later their shed was robbed of all its tools. Probably a coincidence but be careful before you ask people you don't know to your house to collect stuff.

Ours had 'Pedigree Dog, any breed but must be pedigree' advert the other day. I did chuckle to myself.

Mopswerver · 19/04/2012 17:45

Grin you've got to admire the nerve.

tazzle · 19/04/2012 18:28

blimmin eck ...... this has certainly changed my mind from my first post .. my local group I must say are a very polite lot Wink

ConstanceChatterley · 19/04/2012 18:52

YANBU

The cheekiness of people never fails to amaze me.

Though, sometimes what people are offering can be quite funny. Today for example, someone is offering 9 Princes Beef and Chicken and Ham Paste! (all within date apparently).

bumperella · 19/04/2012 19:09

I don't mind polite requests for the kind of stuff you're unlikely to sell, but might have in your loft/shed.

On ours there's one particular person who posts LOADS of "wanted" stuff but offers very little - every week there'll be a list of things she wants (invariably no essentials) but almost never an offer of anything. The local group is always looking for volunteers to help out, which she never does.

TidyDancer · 19/04/2012 19:10

There's someone on my local one who requests a PS3 very frequently. She uses all the Freecycle buzzwords, like knowing it's a long shot and begging to make her boys wishes come true.

My favourite ever grabby ones were the girl who asked for any BlackBerry apart from a Pearl, and any Apple items, must be brand new.

notcitrus · 19/04/2012 19:33

I don't know if it's just local moderators doing a good job but our Freecycle is great - not many cheeky wanteds and while I keep thinking 'who would want a X', invariably they get taken. I guess in a city people will collect anything if it's close enough.

I mostly use it to get rid of stuff that charity shops won't take - was amazed by over 20 replies when I offered approx 500 tampons...

RagamuffinAndFidget · 19/04/2012 19:47

There's a girl who posts on one of those 'Wanted In..' Facebook groups that I'm a member of, always asking for 'X, y and z, free or cheap please'. Her most recent one was 'Boys clothes, aged 3-4 years, must be in excellent condition, free or cheap please.'

It gets my back up to see ads like that. Surely if you're going to be fussy about type/condition you either need to buy new or pay the price required! So no, OP, YANBU.
