Pampers / Huggies pricing requires A-level maths to work out best value.

Ok, so it's not A level maths. But it's always very, very confusing.

Always, at least one size of pack is on special offer, usually a multibuy special offer. The little labels which tell you the cost per nappy apply only to a single buy, so don't help you here. I was on Ocado a minute ago, looking for size 4+ nappies, and had to work out whether 3 lots of 28 for £15 was better than 30 for £4.32, or 74 for £9.85, or two lots of 48 for £16, or two lots of 70 for £22....

This is not obvious. Not easy. I have a maths degree and am not afraid to use it, but I resent the cynical and obvious marketing strategy which is to bamboozle parents as much as possible.

(Disclaimer: this is not a big AIBU, just a minor irritation like having your digestive disintegrate in your coffee. Just wanted to share the moan. Thank you.)

I rather enjoy it. Blush

It makes me feel like I'm adding value to the whole shopping experience!

TheAvocadoOfWisdom · 18/04/2012 19:45

Suzyszoo what's wrong with pampers simply. I just put some in the basket for the online shop as I saw they were cheaper. Are they not so good?

They give some babies nappy rash (mine included - not badly but noticeably worse skin after using them).

Aldi ones are utter shite!

Pampers or sainsburys little ones!

trixie123 · 18/04/2012 20:29

sainsbury's are terrible! I actually returned the pack after using about three because they came undone and leaked all the time. They didn't quibble at all to their credit, but will never use them again, Wilko's are good though.

vj32 · 18/04/2012 21:43

I don't put nappies on at all - its free!

Actually we use a combination of Huggies and Pampers - mostly Huggies as they are cheaper. With lots of vouchers and we only buy when on offer. We used reusables as well until winter set in. No tumble dryer plus damp problem in the house = disposables, or entire days spent in the laundrette.

What suits one child doesn't suit another.

And as a sleep deprived new parent, I did say many many thanks to mobile phones with calculators on. Mostly because while I could do the maths in my head, I didn't trust the answer.

SuzysZoo · 18/04/2012 22:22

Nothing wrong with Simply Avocado. I just have very skinny babies (not like me!) and I need the extra elastic of the pampers active fit which I think are the best fit cos the most stretchy. If anyone can tell me otherwise and give me a really stretchy cheap alternative I would love to know! I think Huggies tend to fit more rounded children better. They always leak with my skinny twins.

Well, from your original post, the best price is 74 for £9.85.
