AIBU to expect to NOT have to replace faulty BT equipment out of my own pocket??

Please give me honest opinions, I am so so annoyed with BT and don't know whether to try to take it futher.

Basically a few nights ago one of the prongs on the 'Homehubs' plug broke, the outer cover of the prong became stuck in the socket and just the inner metal part came out. Have no idea why this happened as there was no 'rough' handling or anything out of the ordinary!! At present I have that part of the plug stuck in and will probably need an electician to remove it as don't fancy pushing pliers in to try and retrieve it!!

So anyhow, I rang BT, explained the situation and asked if they could please replace the faulty/broken power adaptor as currently I cannot SAFELY use it.

They have informed me that they will only replce the hub if it is broken but never send out replacement power adaptors. They could not tell me why this policy was in place.

I have explained that as far as I am concerned the hub is unusuable (I can use it if I take my life in my hands and insert the inner bit of plug into the bit stuck into the socket but I'm sure this isn't recommended).

As the eqiupment was supplied under a contract and has been used in a normal reasonable manner I feel that BT should replace the eqiupment.

At 37 years of age I have never had a plug fall apart like this so it must have been fairly poorly made to start with surely??

BT have said I will need to purchase a new adaptor out of my own money (I have pointed out that i will also incur costs to get the bloody prong removed as well) it just seems so unfair. yes I'm sre a new adaptor will 'only' be a fiver or so but THAT IS NOT THE POINT!!!!!

Soplease tell me AIBU??

YANBU - i'd be pissed off, but i'm pretty sure that to get the results you want from BT you're going to be doing the whole written complaint thing and hope they dont take a month to respond. As for getting them to pay for an electrician to get that bit out - i don't think it will happen.

Sigh, I wasn't expecting them to pay for the electrician (when all is said and done we will probably try to remove it ourselves) Sad. But did expect a bit more customer service after all they have taken thousands from us for the 'service' they provide.

The 'hub' is as flimsy as it gets tbh so I'm not surprised the adaptor has just fallen to bits.

Good job I'm able to get the shops to purchase a replacement and have the cash to do so, am sure many wouldn't at present.

I feel sad and frustrated for you OP but unfortunately BT is such a huge machine that it would probably take a good few years and bouts of hospitalisation to get any joy out of them Sad
