or should it be typed and printed?

Can't decide if handwritten is more personal or if typed is more professional?

typed definately.

Hassled · 16/04/2012 13:24

Typed is more professional. But if you're resigning, do you care?

SunflowersSmile · 16/04/2012 13:25

I don't think it matters. However if you type it is easier to keep copies.

Megatron · 16/04/2012 13:25

I would say it would depend on the position and the relationship you have with your boss?

complexnumber · 16/04/2012 13:25

Doubt if it would make much difference.

I think I would type it, then I have a record of what and when I said anything.

And my handwriting is crap.

RuleBritannia · 16/04/2012 13:27

I would prefer to receive a handwritten letter of any sort but a typewritten letter would be acceptable in two ways. Firstly, the recipient would be able to read it without trying to decipher aspects of your handwriting and secondly, you will be able to alter as you go type and insert or delete bits when you have finished.

Typed

scuzy · 16/04/2012 13:28

and typing it up gives you the option of spell check also

Gumby · 16/04/2012 13:34

Can you email a resignation or does it always have to be a letter?

ComposHat · 16/04/2012 14:02

Does it matter if you are leaving, but a formal typed letter, followed by a verbal thank you if you feel your boss warrants it.

bubby64 · 16/04/2012 14:05

I would do a formal, typed letter.

RevoltingPeasant · 16/04/2012 14:10

You can email a resignation but if you are doing it from your work email, then when you leave you won't have a copy as that account will normally expire.

Would do typed and keep a copy for yourself.

Also, they may be writing you a reference in future, so best to be professional.

Ghoulwithadragontattoo · 16/04/2012 14:11

If your handwriting is legible and you get on with your boss I think I would go for the handwritten letter. It has a more personal touch.

rememberingnothing · 16/04/2012 14:19

It depends on the circumstances but in the past I have typed my formal resignation for HR to put on file and be able to read and also handwritten a letter to my boss to explain my personal reasons for leaving and thank them for support.
