you waiting 30 mins to spend exactly 4 minutes cutting your hair 12 mins drying it and then charge £60?
Is this not daylight robbery? Or AIBU?

Eriknorseman
Thanks for that, unfortunately or fortunately the hairdressers wasn't near where I live. So I won't be going back anyhow! Put it down to experience.

My last cut was a complete restyle - 20 cm cut off - it cost £26

MadderHat · 16/04/2012 07:30

LineRunner same here, I think it's to hide the fact that they can't figure out how long to cut it when it's normal long but very curly, or maybe they just have a thing against curly hair. The trouble with straightening my hair is that a nice straight line when the hair is straight is nothing like straight when the hair is normal because my hair when long has 2 major kinks on the left and 1 on the right; if they wet it to control its flyawayness they lose the kink and get stuck.

Unless the salon were extremely apologetic about the wait I wouldn't have waited any longer than 15 minutes. YANBU

For the reasons mentioned by everyone, I haven't been to a hairdressing salon for years. I have a mobile, properly trained hairdresser who visits me at home (I can't be bothered to sit waiting in a salon) and she charges £10 for a trim. I've asked how much a hair dye and highlights would cost and was told £28. I'm just plucking up the courage to go through with it from white to blonde.

Oh, and she's never late in arriving.

LineRunner · 17/04/2012 13:22

MadderHat I think they have a thing against curly hair. I know this because of the way they pick it up and throw it back down like they've got shit on their hands whilst saying, 'Oooh, is that natural? '

MadderHat · 20/04/2012 22:29

LineRunner I once got caught in the rain before a hair appointment, and it dried without benefit of a brush, so it dried in very tight curls - think the kind of ringlets that rich girls would have having had their hair in papers overnight a century ago. The hairdressers tried to claim it had been permed and therefore my simple cut would be more expensive. Passed a brush through it, and a minute later they agreed it wasn't permed. I try to go to hairdressers' no more than once a year, and preferably the one who has known me since I was a child, near my mother's house. Pity that's 200 miles away.

I once went to what I thought was a perfectly ordinary salon near my work - had a half head of highlights and a trim and got charged £287 plus £3 for the coffee Shock Angry. It was the Daniel Herscheson salon - I didn't know he was anything special and you know what - it was a perfectly ordinary, drab salon and I had a perfectly ordinary haircut from a perfectly ordinary hairdresser.

My fault for not knowing but I just had no idea this was even possible.

MsVestibule · 20/04/2012 22:39

margoandjerry - I am Shock x 1000 that a hair cut/highlights could cost £287!!! Come to my hairdresser next time. £33 for full head tint, cut and blow dry, AND the coffee's free.

AlbertoFrog · 20/04/2012 22:45

Did you tip? Grin

mummylin2495 · 20/04/2012 22:49

£287 >

noseynoonoo · 20/04/2012 23:25

I can't believe they charged you for the coffee!

MrsKevinBridges · 20/04/2012 23:36

Margoandjerry, were the staff all dressed in stripy tops and little masks? And were they all called Bill?
Also, hairdressers fear curly hair unless they are ninja warrior hairdressers.

Mrsjay · 20/04/2012 23:54
