To only ever wear granny pants

For the last few years I have only worn grey white cotton Bridget Jones style knickers (I must stress I have many pairs - I don't keep wearing the same pair). I first discovered them during pregnancy and I just can't give them up. Dh mocks me and regularly suggests I should get some more alluring underwear, I also have vpl sometimes but tbh I don't really care because they are comfortable and don't give me thrush. AIBU not to make more effort in the underwear department?

Does anyone else remember the Glory Days when all the older women seemed to wear their knickers, with their tights over the top,and another pair of knickers over the tights to hold them up??

DinahMoHum · 15/04/2012 08:31

i dont even think my mum wears applecatchers

SkinnyVanillaLatte · 15/04/2012 08:31

I'm a M&S high legs comfort gal myself - I like to see it as a sporty look Wink

CMOTDibbler · 15/04/2012 08:34

Mh dh opines that my underwear choices are as much his affair as his is mine. And he like comfy black jersey big pants.
I wear black cotton or lace shorts, but only full cover - else my tum hangs over the top

blapbird · 15/04/2012 08:35

WhiteStuff do 3 for £18 they are always beautiful coulours and embelishments but cut into a boy short really soft cotton and above all comfortable YANBU! i COULDN'T wear a thong all up a sweaty bum crack all day what's sexy about that?

ReshapeWhileDamp · 15/04/2012 08:39

YANBU. The most comfy pants in my drawer, and the ones I shall never, ever throw out, are a pair of my mum's applecatchers. Blush I must have borrowed them from her during a stay. I had loads of my own but they're not as nice for some reason, and I chucked out a lot of pregnancy ones recently because the drawer wouldn't close (people who live in thongs presumably never have this problem). Now I've mostly got M&S and Sainsboro bikini briefs and they tend to migrate up my bum.

Wish I could afford some Sloggis.

MissBeehivingUnderTheMistletoe · 15/04/2012 08:39

Skinny - my mum used to do that to me at primary school Grin

God, I love big pants but they can be grim. This is the way to go, as decided by S & B No hoiking and seamfree.

Honeydragon · 15/04/2012 08:42

Worra has a point about the slippers. I only wear big pants and flip flops and will never return to things and heels

mamasmissionimpossible · 15/04/2012 08:47

Oh dear I too am finding it hard to give up my granny basher pants 7 weeks after my ds was born. It is my quilty secret, dh hasn't noticed yet! They are just too comfy.

DinahMoHum · 15/04/2012 08:49

Missbeehiving. I have those ones. Theyre really comfy and pretty too

flumpalump · 15/04/2012 09:35

Skinny I have done that Blush so I remember those days well.

Dinah and Worra I think you have good points - in addition to granny pants I wear tracksuit bottoms quite often and slippers whenever I possibly can so I am definitely a slob comfort over style type of woman Grin

I love the idea of big pants with pockets. These days teenage girls have to put their valuables down their bras because their pants just aren't big enough.

Those are really nice Missbeehiving but I don't trust anything that only has "cotton gusset" because the tiny patch of cotton that they call a gusset doesn't seem to stay where it should.

For the boy short enthusiasts - I like these too but have found there to be a seam where the gusset is sewn in, which causes what I can only describe as chafing. (Am I the only one with these problems or am I just buying cheap knickers?)

Comfy pants for the day, lacey wisps for "special occasions" - when you won't actually have to wear them for long, seems like a sensible compromise to me.

ragged · 15/04/2012 10:59

If you wear big pants you can't wear jeans (see my other Woe is Me Thread about jeans). Not unless you want the whole world to see your bottom, sigh.

ragged · 15/04/2012 10:59

ps: I meant to ask OP what she wears for outers, obviously not jeans!

lunamoon · 15/04/2012 11:05

YANBU.
I have fancy pants in my draw (somewhere) BUT the ones dh has bought me tend to ride up my arse cheeks in a most uncomfortable way. They also are made of fancy lace with ribbons attached and if I wear trousers they leave vpl so I don't like wearing them.

DinahMoHum · 15/04/2012 11:07

Do you match them up with a genie bra for special occasions?

Hownoobrooncoo · 15/04/2012 11:40

I wear big pants with jeans but then I've started wearing higher waisted jeans than the low slung muffin inducing ones that are available.

marriedinwhite · 15/04/2012 15:36

honeydragon are you trying to say you used to wear thongs and heels and now wear drawers and thongs Grin

Bambino81 · 15/04/2012 16:10

All hail the granny pants!!

eurochick · 15/04/2012 16:12

Boy shorts are great - they cover as much as granny pants but look much nicer. And don't give you vpl.

ragged · 15/04/2012 18:11

Hownoobrooncoo where do you buy your higher waisted jeans? I am on a mission to find high waist jeans that also fit curvy people. Do you know of such a product (in the UK)?

Hownoobrooncoo · 15/04/2012 18:23

M&S, perhaps Wallis. Even places like Asda - not overly trendy but I'm no teenager and the higher waisted are more flattering then showing off your arse and muffin tops. Avoid, top shop, Warehouse, Miss Selfridge etc as they just seem to be designed to show off your nee naw and for skinny 15 yr olds with extra long legs.

ragged · 15/04/2012 18:27

Ta, I knew about M&S but will add others to the list :).

AutumnSummers · 15/04/2012 20:04

I loved them in pregnancy but they make me cringe at any other time. I accidentally bought a packet of them a while ago and shrieked in horror when I put them on! I showed DH for a laugh but I could never actually wear them! They're just horrendous!

marriedinwhite · 15/04/2012 20:52

How many on this thread also have a pair of Ecco sandals (or something similar). I'm a Josef Siebel fan personally but also have a few pairs of quite elegant Van Dals Grin
