to be slightly po-faced about amount of dog poo in neighbour's back garden?

We have big, long, narrow gardens and, ok, it doesn't really affect me, but today I was out in our garden and caught a really nasty smell on the breeze. I was thinking, oh no, a fox or cat has crapped on our grass I'll have to find it and bury it because the dc are playing out here. But I hunted around and couldn't see anything. Glanced over the fence (its only about 4ft) and spotted 5 huge piles of dog crap on next door's lawn. There must be more because I wasn't looking for long. Aibu or is that a bit scuzzy?

5 is about 2 days' worth for some dogs. Maybe the owners are poorly and not able to walk the dog for the time being.

mum47 · 13/04/2012 20:28

YANBU because it has affected you. I always try to pick up our dog's poo from our garden right away. At worst, one might lie there un-noticed. Our neighbours have to walk past our garden to access theirs, and I am conscious that they do not want to be looking at poo in the passing. Difficult one to raise with them though..

BountyCack · 13/04/2012 20:28

It's when you see white ones that they've really let things go

scuzzy and even though it is in their garden it is still you who have to smell it.

chuck a roll of dog poo bags over the fence and see if they take the hint.

Tryharder · 13/04/2012 20:31

My neighbours have 2 largish dogs in a smallish house and never walk them as far as I can tell. Their back garden is disgusting. YANBU

SuePurblyBusinesslike · 13/04/2012 20:33

Nah, white ones are because of a meaty, boney (zat a word?) diet, not age.
I try to do mine every day but if I can't - when I leave and get home in the dark - it can build up in 2 days

Another reason why I need staff

misdee · 13/04/2012 20:35

was going to say white ones arent always old. ralph is on a raw diet and he does poos which go white i na day or so depending on heat. try and clear it everyday but its been awful weather this week so havent had chance to get out there.

curiositykitten · 13/04/2012 20:39

Ewww. My next door neighbour is awful at picking up after her dog (who has to shit in the garden as she never gets walked - but that's a different thread) and there's often a dozen or so turds lying in the garden.
Another neighbour told me that the old guy who lived here before me complained about it to the HA and they passed it on the environmental health, who apparently had a word with her.

teanosugar · 13/04/2012 20:48

Cant you speak to the EH, surely its a health hazard, wont it attract rats etc.
Our two dogs do two poos each day, both of which get picked up as they have been done (even if I have to run out in the rain etc to do it), I have been known to walk round looking for the missing one if I havent picked four up by the end of the day!
I would be mortified if neighbours/visitors saw even one poo on my back lawn.

On a lighter note, when I was little I thought white poos were only done by white poodles :)

smilingthroughgrittedteeth · 13/04/2012 20:49

YANBU although I'm slightly concerned that your my neighbour Confused.

I've been really ill for the last 2 days and DP has been away camping with the DSC so my poor dog has had no choice but to go in the garden, I did pick it all up this morning and had 4 poo bags full (about 12 poos in total), she was walked wed lunchtime so that was from then till about 11am today!

I usually pick up daily but to be honest its rare that she goes in the garden as she gets 3 walks a day so goes then.

I'd probably have to say something as I like nothing better than sitting in the garden and would not want to be smelling dog poo.

misdee · 13/04/2012 20:53

ralphs shy! we can be out all day with him and he wont poo out on a walk! drives me insane as i pass several dog poo bins on the walks.

cazza40 · 13/04/2012 20:58

Yabu it's not your garden the dog is pooing in - not really your business then

VivaLeBeaver · 13/04/2012 20:59

My dog craps 4x a day. I pocked up 13 piles of dog poo yesterday. Blush

Pixel · 13/04/2012 21:05

If it's a one-off (as others have suggested due to illness or something) then it's not your business but if it carries on into the hot weather it definitely will be your business as it will reek! There is a footpath/bridleway at the bottom of our garden and the dog walkers never bother to pick up the mess and use the bin provided, (it stinks so much we call it dog poo alley) and it's impossible to sit at the end of our garden in summer.

surroundedbyblondes · 13/04/2012 21:30

Urgh. Agree with others it's vile unless a one off for health type reasons

Kladdkaka · 13/04/2012 21:42

They need a dog like mine. She eats it. [boak]

oldsilver · 13/04/2012 21:54

We too live in small houses with tiny gardens, with a next door neighbour who doesn't walk her two large dogs (well once a week if the weather is fine or her long standing back problem isn't playing up that she had long before the rottie turned up and the huskie has only arrived in the last few months). Both the dogs are trained to crap in the garden, if she's at home she will clear it up - if she's not her DP will go out and spray it with with a disinfectant (to stop the flies apparently) and then leave it for when she comes back. Yes, he could clear it up in the time it takes to spray it Hmm

Strangely enough, it's been cleaned up quite regularly since I mentioned I've got the council coming round laying rat baitcause we have a problem. And there is a big council van parked outside our house with Pest Control and Dog Warden labels on it when they come to check the bait.

Yes, it absolutely reeks in the summer. But hey, it's in their garden not ours Hmm

mathanxiety · 13/04/2012 22:03

I would be more than slightly po-faced. This will attract rats.

Chilenachica · 13/04/2012 22:04

UANBU

I have 2 German Shepherds, the only thing I find more disgusting than donning a pair of gloves and picking up their shit, is the thought of leaving it in situ. I just couldn't do that.

AhsataN · 13/04/2012 22:28

i used to have a german shepard and she would crap in the garden during the day as we would walk her at night due to her sever behavioral problems with other dogs.
i would clean up and jeyes fluid the garden every couple of days. in the summer every day.
oldsilver did you know rats love to eat dog poo, we had a bad problem with rats running into our garden and we were told make sure you clean up daily as it entices the rats to come in and grab a snack.
