AIBU to consider reporting this driver to the local police?

A 4x4 driver (woman) just drove straight at me and my baby, whom I was pushing in his buggy, drenching us with foul water from a deep eight foot flood/puddle. This was on a private road. Am I being U to report the driver to the local police, as being suspected of being drunk, or otherwise incapable of driving safely? This was at 11.45am. I don't know if she was drunk or not. Either way, she was driving fast, aggressively, on a 15mph road with speed bumps, and we were totally drenched and frightened as she careered at us.

Disclaimer: do not live in UK, live on small hot island without much crime!

Do you have any proof/witnesses?

nocake · 13/04/2012 19:41

In the UK I would as someone was recently fined for driving through a puddle and soaking a pedestrian. Where you live... I've no idea.

DawnOfTheDee · 13/04/2012 19:42

I'd report her. Sounds like the police might be glad of something to do as well>>>

DPrince · 13/04/2012 19:43

I would think you would need proof and her reg plate.

ragged · 13/04/2012 19:43

Suspect you won't get any satisfaction & I wonder if there could be nasty comeback if they could trace the driver.

Napdamnyou · 13/04/2012 19:54

Two witnesses, (a childcarer and another lady and walking by) - and its almost definitely on CCTV as well.

I don't know what the situation would be where you are, but a similar incident happened to a childminder we know.
My DH was just returning from the school run when he saw her crossing the road with a double buggy and two children. He also saw an utter idiot come round the corner, then deliberately accelerate towards her: she only just made it to the other side.
He reported them to the police - had registration number and everything - but they said they'd need 2 reports before they could do anything.

Napdamnyou · 13/04/2012 19:56

Have her registration plate as well. Am going to ask the management of the residential area where we live in case it is another resident, in which case I can get her name and address and go round and shout at her.

Tanith - but if the childminder herself also filed a report, would that not have meant they had to investigate? Can't believe some of the insane things people will do on the road- what a terrible story!

Napdamnyou · 13/04/2012 20:01

Shockat police in Tanith story.

In the UK it counts as 'driving without due care and attention'.

BetsyBoop · 13/04/2012 21:22

I obviously don't know how the law works where you live, but in the UK the police won't get involved in traffic incidents on private roads - my DM/DF were involved in a nasty crash on a private road (not their fault, other driver was speeding, on mobile & driving on wrong side of road round a corner - they all needed hospital treatment), police wouldn't get involved. Their insurance company had to gather the evidence and take the other party through the civil court and prove they were at fault (parent's car was a write-off) to get their claim sorted. Other driver was not charged with any driving offences...

Tanith · 13/04/2012 21:29

I hope she did - DH rang her to let her know he'd reported it so she had another witness if she needed one.
