to hate the whole school shoe shopping experience

last week took DS to shopping centre to get feet measured. 13E, no change, no need for new shoes - hooray.

Got home, looked at old school shoes, noticed they were falling apart, soles worn out etc (note to self, check shoes before leaving home next time). So back to shopping centre this week, same shoe shop, different size 1D. Is it really possible to go up one whole size and down a width size in a week Hmm

If so, lucky I didn't buy shoes last week. At least they had some in the right size.

Now I have to turn the whole house upside down looking for the name stickers I bought last time and put in a very safe place Grin

Agree fully. Wouldn't it be a good idea if clarks just turned up at school on the first day of each term and did a mass fitting. School could then bill us like they do for school photos and we'd never have to stress about it ever again.

I'm dreading it when dd moves to senior school in September as her feet are small and narrow but she doesn't want "little girl" shoes any more.

McHappyPants2012 · 12/04/2012 16:59

From the lettering, Clarks are not that great of measuring feet. My son got blisters from his shoes went to get his feet measured again 2 days latter and it changed. I got my money back

Rezolution · 12/04/2012 17:03

margoandjerry That is a fantastic idea. I had the idea that the school uniform shop ought to stock the shoes that the school approve of in the correct colour and ALL the sizes. End of problem.

SauvignonBlanche · 12/04/2012 17:06

I loath school shoe shopping and I don't trust Clarks.

BackforGood · 12/04/2012 17:08

margoandjerry what a fab idea Grin

McPopcornMouseNFries · 12/04/2012 17:09

My feet are like that LIZS and all I could wear to school were boots :(

McHappyPants2012 · 12/04/2012 17:09

Love the idea of the school sorting out shoes

Indith · 12/04/2012 17:12

I am fed up of clarks, ds's shoes are falling apart and dd always has to have the same pair of shoes as they are the only ones they do taht fit her feet properly. This weekend a mobile shoe fitting woman is coming to my house complete with shoes. I'm rather hoping she will be as fabulous as she sounds!

Chilenachica · 12/04/2012 17:29

One of mine has sever bunions, inherited from me, there is not a shoe anywhere in the world that fits her. Never mind one that fits and she likes.

I'm really lucky though, because she is sensible enough to accept that she just has to have the style the Dr suggested, but we can't get different width shoes hereAngry. Her sister, on the other hand, is a nightmare when buying school shoes AngryAngryAngry

couldn't even face Clarks, took one look at the seething mass of humanity that was their children's department and ran away Grin

I don't do Clarks either. I take mine to the local shoe shop or the supermarket and point out all the ones that are leather and not likely to shred and scuff in the first 5 minutes. They get their pick and choose the ones that are comfy.

It seems to work.

Gunznroses · 12/04/2012 23:29

We are going on the dreaded school shoe shopping tommorrow, planning to go brantanomo, are there any better places ?

Mrsjay · 12/04/2012 23:35

I wouldnt take a secondary aged child to clarks my dd measured a 4 g (cant remember the letter) anyway they were like boats on her feet the assistant said oh well thats what the machine said , I said they dont fit and was told some waffle about growing room , i retorted growing room for a giant and flounced out Grin taking dd2 at the weekend it will be supermarket shoes or sprts direct we have 10 weeks left in scotland abut her shoes are falling to bits

Gunznroses · 13/04/2012 00:02

But supermarket shoes fall apart within seconds, surely Clarks have got to be better ??

BackforGood · 13/04/2012 00:09

Clarks last longer than cheap ones, but not proportionately longer, when you take into account the multiples of £££ you pay. Over a year, it's cheaper to replace the supermarket ones more often than the Clarks ones, which still have to be replaced, just not quite as often.

Gunznroses · 13/04/2012 00:14

You make a good point ! I wouldnt go near Next shoes with a bargpole, i see above someone mentioned Sportsdirect, had no idea they sold school shoes there....are there aby other places.
