For health reasons I haven't really worked for the last year, I am on conts based jsa which is due to run out next month. I have 2 kids aged 7 and 3. The three year old is at morning nursery until 11.45 each day. My mum and dad work, theinlaws don't but aren't much use for babysitting as they always at the gym or on holiday etc that's fine they have raised their family! I used to work full time and paid about 640 per mOnth in childcare I could not cope with full time work now and don't wAnt to have to work to pay someone else to look after my little one all the time. Don't want to go back to my old line of work as I ended up hating it. Looking at library work and if something part time came up I would def take it. Doing voluntary work in a library ATM, so I suppose what I am asking is AIBU to want to be a SAHM until I get the littlest in ft school (school has an affordable and good breakfast and after school club) cos my hubby thinks I am he wants me to get a job ASAP. We can just about manage with money. Sorry for complete stream of consciousness but am writing this on my phone.

Not really, I've just done one project in e-learning -- writing content for an e-learning module aimed at university students. I worked a bit with the Information Services guys at the uni (they're based in the library division actually) so I got to learn a bit about the field, it was really interesting.

Universities are really getting into e-learning as a way to reduce costs and get more students in, so I think it's a good field to get into.

The entire field of information management is pretty big right now, in both the public and private sector. I think it would be more promising to look into that.

Lemon... I have been looking for library work as per my jobseekers agreement for the lat 5.5 months. At some point they will be summoning me in to discuss my jobseekers agreement ie change it and look for other work but by then I won't be signing on iykwim. Anyway I am on cjsa due to the ni I have paid for working ft for eight years. But Ian being honest in that I am
Not going over and above what it says in my jobseekers agreement.

Maybe sit down and work out how much you would be likely to earn and how much of that you would lose in childcare / work related incidentals, to see how much your family would actually benefit financially from you working.

Then decide if it is worth it.

Tory I have done this and the best way I see it working is by doing eveni g weekend work thus having to pay for negligible childcare until little one stats full time school at which point I would look for full time and use afterschool club which would only be abt 60 per week for 2 kids

If you havent worked "for health reasons" is going onto ESA after JSA runs out an option?
If you qualify for JSA(C) you should get ESA(C) as well even if its only for a couple of months

Iamgiulietta · 12/04/2012 15:50

Theres nowt wrong with me now so ESA not an option... i was only unwell due to having to work long hours in a terrible environment with nasty people. Not sure I would like to be tarred with the 'too ill to work ' brush. I am now thinking my best way forward is to use this time between now and sept 2013 to do some kind of course to allow me to teach adults whilst still doing my volunteering and keep applying for library jobs and later adult ed jobas and when they come up without been harassed by the job centre. This thread has helped me formulate a plan of action, so many thanks to all who have contributed. Most people I know in rl are sahms so it is always good to get another point of view
