decorating nursery during business hours and ds clothes covered in paint

I sent ds to nursery last week, they had the decorators in painting a room my ds has to walk through to access his room, bathroom etc.

when i went to collect my son the supervisor told me he had paint on his coat, I reassured her it was fine, I had planned on buying him a lighter coat for spring/summer anyway.

When we got home his coat was covered in paint, also the sleeve of his long and short sleeve t's he was wearing. It wont come off i have tried everything.

The more i think about it the angrier i get. Ds would have got next winter out of this coat and his t-shirts would easily have done him a min of 6 months.
Money is not growing on trees in our house right now and it will cost £50 to replace these items.

would ibu to back track on what i initially told the supervisor and complain about said items now i have seen the full extent of the damage. I am not looking compensation for the items but would at least like and explanation as to why they had to decorate with small children running around

Sorry it's so long I did'nt want to drip feed

i wouldnt care about the clothes part but would be wondering what the hell my son was doing around those painting? tins, brushes, the smell, ladders etc. they shouldnt have been let anywhere near that are if it HAD to be done during nursery hours.

did the place not stink of paint? that gives me headaches!

and i wouldnt dream of spending tenner or euro equivalent on a long sleeve tshirt for ds ... thats crazy.

i'd be more concerned about the safety part.

Same as thunks, that would have made both DDs very ill, and I would find it totally unacceptable. I also don't think YABU regarding the clothes either, DDs both had expensive, warm coats from Gap at nursery age, I always got 2 winters out of them. It's your business what you dress your children in, and besides money may be tight now, but may not have been when the coats were bought.

Since when was a tenner a crazy amount to spend on a long sleeved character top? Sounds pretty normal to me.

Off topic, but if you were looking for Star Wars tops, I used to get them in Asda for my boys. They were really good quality and have lasted for ages without losing their shape or fading.

YANBU, it's one thing when your child's clothes get covered in paint or glue from an activity but quite another when they get covered in decorator's paint. I would be annoyed too. If they must walk through the room being painted then they should be supervised to ensure they don't brush against the walls or touch any painted areas.

btw if you are looking for a replacement coat, Sainsburys have a great sale on, I got a winter one for my DS ready for next winter for less than a fiver last week. Total bargain

Of course YANBU, defintley make a claim re the clothes. I would be having doubts about a nursery that has painting going on while children there, fumes especially with babies/ Angry for you.
