To think people have known for a year that Tax Credits were changing...

so should have budgeted for it? I have lost £100 a month but knew I would so for a year I've reigned in my spending to compensate for it......

Well done.

Have a cigar and a hearty clap on the shoulder

Jjou · 11/04/2012 15:07

But it's not been clear who would lose what has it? All of the guidance has been couched in confusing language, and from reading it I'm none-the-wiser about who's entitled to what. Reading threads on here people STILL don't know if they're getting anything, or how much, they're just waiting for the letters or seeing what goes into their accounts. I was miffed when we lost ours last year but I'm so glad I don't have to go through all of this malarkey now. It must nerve-shredding if you're dependent on them.

blubberyboo · 11/04/2012 15:08

don't know...did people understand the letters?
would it be harder to adjust to a £300 reduction in monthly income?
are there many employers offering an additional 8 hours per week at the moment?

hoops997 · 11/04/2012 15:09

But the award notice people were issued after renewal notices give a predicted award for tax year 2012/2013, that's how I know what I would lose.

OP posts:
TeaOneSugar · 11/04/2012 15:11

So the point of this thread is just to tell us how clever and organised you are ???

blubberyboo · 11/04/2012 15:11

why does it bother you?

hoops997 · 11/04/2012 15:13

Not at all, it just seems that almost every thread about tax credits is about people losing money, like I said people
Have known that the TC would be changing this year.

Jjou · 11/04/2012 15:14

Some people are losing 400 quid though! That's hardly in the 'reigning in your spending' and being a bit frugal camp is it? I couldn't adjust to losing 400 quid a month, we'd be seriously fucked. A bit of compassion wouldn't go amiss surely? If you suddenly found out that your predicted tax credits weren't right and you lost more would you be so cavalier about it?

I am sympathetic to it all, and if I my award was wrong I would be royally fucked. I'm not talking about the people who's circs have changed but the people who's circs have stayed the same an they are surprised that they're losing money.

Yes I knew we were going to get less so started shitting money. Wonder why I left it so long to be honest.

hoops997 · 11/04/2012 15:17

Sorry forgot to add

OP posts:
McHappyPants2012 · 11/04/2012 15:21

I knew tc are changing, but don't know how much I am going to lose and I am shitting myself as we just get by as it

Katienana · 11/04/2012 15:22

I didn't understand it until I put the numbers into the calculator over the weekend. When I did it a couple of weeks ago based on projected earnings after I have my baby and go back to work I was entitled to nearly £100 per week towards childcare (I accept I could have got my numbers wrong at some point). Did it again with the updated calculator and get nothing. Oh dear. I will still be going back to work but it means that it will be much less worthwhile in financial terms for me to do so, and possibly won't be able to go part time.
Not asking for sympathy BTW I know htere are many folk worse off than me and it is them I worry for.

TeaOneSugar · 11/04/2012 15:22

I just don't get what you were trying to achieve here.

Jjou · 11/04/2012 15:24

But what if your circumstances have stayed the same because you couldn't alter them to suit the new rules (i.e. you couldn't make your hours up to 24 because your employer just can't do it), what are you meant to do? Maybe some people are shocked at how much they're losing when nothing's changed for them. I also doubt that the award letters people recieved a year ago for this financial year are still going to be accurate. The whole thing seems to be, um, constantly evolving (not wishing to imply the gment are making it up as they go along, oh no.)

porcamiseria · 11/04/2012 15:24

I see what you mean. Its not like noone had any notice?

I dont know, we have got very used to a society that propped up people, and helped people that needed it

simple, the money is not there anymore

Look at Greece :(

BTW did you once get FLAMED on a thread about OBEM? remember the name

OhTinky · 11/04/2012 15:25

Here, have a Biscuit

hoops997 · 11/04/2012 15:25

tea I'm not trying to achieve anything, just can't believe that this has come as such a shock to many people.

oopsi · 11/04/2012 15:26

What a dim post! Not everybody may have enough slack to be able to trim away the difference.

hoops997 · 11/04/2012 15:28

porca that's exactly what I mean, people have had notice an yes I did get flamed once before.

OP posts:
lesley33 · 11/04/2012 15:28

I do understand what you mean OP as people had notice. I guess then the answer is that either people didn't understand the letter or chose to forget about it and hoped it wouldn't happen. Of course some peopel can't chnage their circumstances, but it shouldn't actually be a surprise that it is happening.

MrsDmitriTippensKrushnic · 11/04/2012 15:29

Until next week I have no idea how much I'll be getting if anything - we're right at the cusp with regards to earnings and for a while I thought we'd lose it. Now though I think we might just keep it because the limit with three children is higher. I got lost a while back I have to say...
