To think this behaviour in the supermarket carpark was wrong

I was up at the supermarket earlier and a huge row was going on outside the supermarket. Apparently a mother with two small kids was furious that someone without children had taken the last P&C space and had just blocked him in and gone off to do her shopping. As a result she was causing a huge obstruction for other customers trying to drive up to the exit and was also impeding the view of other cars trying to reverse out of their spaces.
AIBU to feel that she was taking the situation waaay too seriously and should have just gone off and parked somewhere else.

In that case, Morloth, why did you bother reading this thread?

P&C spaces are very convenient, in every supermarket i go to there are hundreds of the damn things. i just use them as i would any other space, having a child doesnt make you incapable (although having read some of the posts on here i sometimes wonder .......)

never yet had anyone even glare at me, let alone say anything. i would just say what i said up there ^ just because you have a kid, doesnt make you incapable of walking 10 yards further. and as for the ewww we need more room argument, if they need more room there are hundreds of empty spaces at the end of the car park, so fill your boots love

The answer is so simple-I wish supermarkets would take note. Spaces need to be wider and in a place where you don't have to cross in front of traffic -so put them in the far corner and the problem wouldn't exist.

This is one of the better recent threads, maybe even the kind that keeps even Dr Brooke Magnanti glued to AIBU. Well done everyone.

I dont blame her, I'm sick of selfish fuckers parking in Parent and Child spaces with no children. I totally agree that parents have no special rights but the shops put these spaces in to make it easier for parents to shop. Good for her

1gglePiggle · 15/04/2012 20:07

Fair play to the woman is what I say. Can't believe so many parents are actually in favour of non parents parking in them!

LilRedWG · 15/04/2012 20:19

It is women like this that stop me using P&C spaces when I'm out without DC, even though I struggle to walk far and sometimes have to use crutches.

ShellyBoobs · 15/04/2012 20:38

P+C spaces are a load of bollocks designed to pander to fuckwits with PFB syndrome.

Personally, I'll park wherever the fuck I like (but never in disabled spaces) and would have cheerfully rammed the smug fucker's car out of the way with my huuuge 4x4 Audi if she'd blocked me in.

She seems like a nightmare and a self-centred twat.
If it's the principle of the matter how much effort does she put into enforcing other store created policies? Is it now reasonable to go up and dump someones shopping out of their basket if they have more than 10 items in the express lane?
If she's pissed off about a private stores policies being violated then complain to the shop, no right to take it into her own hands.

mayorquimby · 15/04/2012 20:43

"I totally agree that parents have no special rights but the shops put these spaces in to make it easier for parents to shop. Good for her"

So no special rights except the right to block in someones car and cause an obstruction in a car park when a 3rd party who has no obligations to her, doesn't follow a companies store policy.

ShellyBoobs · 15/04/2012 20:50

...the shops put these spaces in to make it easier for parents to shop. Good for her

No. They put them there to draw in the fuckwits who think the store cares about them and their PFB. It's a marketing ruse. Nothing more.

Ask yourself this: if the store had a counter with a sign up saying 'free Fruit Shoots for toddlers', would you rugby tackle anyone approaching the counter who was apprently toddlerless, lest they avail themselves of the freebie you deem them un-entitled to?

topknob · 15/04/2012 20:51

I park in two spaces, but if you saw my car and knew anything about cars you would know why I do....and I am pissed off with selfish fuckers allowing their kids to open the car doors into my cars doors !

mayorquimby · 15/04/2012 20:57

Does she rugby tackle people who aren't purchasing anything but pop into pubs/shops/restaurants to use toilets which are for customers only? Or is it only one specific company policy which people are worried about?

upahill · 15/04/2012 21:19

TBH I would get rid of the P & C places or I like the idea that was put about before about having them further away but a safe walkway to the shop.

However did I manage to bring up two children and still shop without these places - Fine is the answer.

Shakirasma · 15/04/2012 21:42

My youngest DC has ASD. He is a runner, and I still have to wrestle him into his car seat.

At the moment he is 5 and small for his age so I have not yet been subjected to any comments, but if he is still the same when he is 15 I will still use the p and c spaces, and bollocks to anyone who doesnt like it. I am responsible for my son's safety and I will do what it takes.

Trust me, he was far easier to handle in a car park when he was a baby! P and c spaces are a small help for parents of littlies, but they are not essential and there are many shoppers with a greater need of them.

exoticfruits · 15/04/2012 21:45

We all managed fine upahill. It is nice to have, but not essential and since people seem to get such a sense of entitlement I would abolish them all.

elvisaintdead · 15/04/2012 22:15

I have 5 DC and therefore a wide car, however it's not a big deal if I can't get a P&C space I just park in a "normal" space. Sure it's a bit annoying when people park there without DC but at best my reaction will be a mini rant in my head if that - there is WAY bigger stuff to be stressing about.

My friend doesn't have a car or DH and does her weekly shop by herself with 2 DC and a buggy on the BUS!! Now that is a challenge! Parking in a "normal" space is a walk in the park by comparison.

IMO the woman sounds deranged and OTT. There are some massive injustices in the world - people without running water, kids living rough in the streets...etc perhaos she should redirect her anger at some REAL issues and make a difference to people's lives rather than peeing off lots of people in a carpark over such a trivial thing.

What is the world coming to???
