To take my kids to the hairdressers

For a three hour appointment? MIL had then all day yesterday and my Mum is having them all day tommorow so they won't entertain the idea. Im at work all week (13 hour shifts) and this is the only day I have before I go away the weekend. Help!!!!

I think even the best behaved kids would struggle with that one.

To put it into perspective, it's half of their school day.

I struggled when my Mum had a cut and blow dry...it was the longest hour of my life and the smell in the hairdressers made me feel sick

I'm not sure the hairdressers will be that happy.

Ok I did think it would be a nightmare taking them there, ive asked my Mum and shes very moaningly accepted they can go round there

Could you re-book your appointment for another time for when they are back to school?
Ds's would probably keep them happy but not for 3 hours

I take my five year old for 2/3 hour appointments and no one seems to mind. She's very good just sits at a spare station and colours, has a snack, plays on my iphone etc. Thena yummy treat lunch if she's good.

If youre a single mum with no closeby friends or family then it's that or crap hair

find a good mobile hairdresser for future appointments!

my DD is only a toddler so i don't take her with me to appointments, but i will once she's over 3 years i think (she loves my iphone so will probably just pay with that) but my hair takes an hour tops. if it was any longer than that i would get a mobile hairdresser to come to me.

Just curious - what are you having done that takes 3 hours?

erm what takes 3 hours at the hairdressers even if i am having a cut and colour im there about 90 minutes ? I wouldnt take mine 3 hours at their age never mind 5/7

I think it's unfair on your dcs and other clients.
3 hours is a hell of a long time.
I have lowlights plus all over colour and cut and am out in 2 hours usually.

I'm a hairstylist. I've worked it a high class salon for 9 years and since having children I am mobile. My clients regually bought there children into the salon. There's just a few things to take into account. Is it a busy saturday where they'll get in the way, is it a family friendly salon, are your children well behavied and have they got something to keep them entertained. I take my children to work with me now (can't afford childcare) there 2 and 7 months and my 2 year old loves it.

Don't you have to keep stopping and leaving your client when you need to see to your kids Rae7?

Going to the hairdressers is a treat for me. Having other peoples' children there for 3 hours (probably bored) would likely spoil the experience. I don't think it's appropriate.

My clients are ones I've had for years. They know my situation and love for them to come along. Normally I fit it around the youngest nap time and Olivia takes some toys, colouring book and a doll and is good as gold. I don't work full time yet so it's only a couple of days a week.

You know the salon and your children. Make it luch time and eating will kill some time for them, buy them a mag ect.

No way, at that age DD2 would have got bored and winged and DD1 would have investigated every shelf, cupboard and shelf and tried out every piece of equipment in the entire place.

2 mins was her absolute limit without fiddling, by 7 you could make that 2.5 minutes

At 14 I still cross my fingers that she'll behave in an age appropriate manner.

My hair is very thick, takes ages.
I went in at nearly twelve and came out at just gone two so didnt take as long as usual today luckily!
