I've never heard of him before but he really, really gives me the cringe and, having tried to watch his stand up show for about five or so minutes tonight, I've also discovered he's not in the least bit funny either. Judging by the reaction from the audience, I don't think many people in it found him very funny either.

Dire.

I remember him off T4 years and years ago. Found him cringey then and still find him cringey now.

He is smug and comes across as thinking he is smarter than everybody else.

Have never considered him funny.

AnxiousPanxious · 10/04/2012 10:30

I loved Gran's House or whatever it was called. Really, really loved it.
I'm not sure stand up is his thing.

FondleWithCare · 10/04/2012 10:34

I like him on Never Mind the Buzzcocks but haven't seen his stand-up.

I don't think he was that rude to Preston was he? I seem to remember he was just reading some quotes from her book, it was taking the piss but not cruel or nasty.

funkybuddah · 10/04/2012 10:35

I can't stand him. Rude , disrespectful and not even funny so he can't get away with it.

McFluffster · 10/04/2012 10:36

I love him, he's very clever.

AnxiousPanxious · 10/04/2012 10:36

I think he was really very cruel, very regularly on Buzzcocks, but most people made a gift to him. It was easy material, they were such cockheads.

Tee2072 · 10/04/2012 10:37

Grandma's House was quite funny and I always enjoyed him on Buzzcocks. Didn't see the one where the panellist walked off.

Have never seen his stand up show.

funkybuddah · 10/04/2012 10:53

He once told a very talented drummer that he would be nothing without the frontman of the band, front man then gave him back his gift, he didn't find his comments complimentary especially as he is amazingly underqualified to comment on the subject.

nizlopi · 10/04/2012 12:41

I love him, he's hilarious.

And the Preston/Chantelle thing was amazing. Preston is a huge idiot.

Devora · 10/04/2012 12:43

He's got a very North London Jewish sense of humour.

anonacfr · 10/04/2012 18:22

So I'm not allowed to fancy anyone who happens to be gay? Bye bye crush on Rupert Everett.... Rupert Graves as Jolyon in the Forsyte Saga... Alan Cumming in just about anything...
Oh well. Hmm

Tee2072 · 10/04/2012 19:29

Am also curious why word gay in all caps...

Fillybuster · 10/04/2012 19:44

His skit on Jewish racism/intermarriage had dh and I rolling on the floor. But I appreciate we might be a bit of a niche audience for that type of material....Grin

I fancy lots of gay people....I didn't realise It Wasn't Allowed Hmm

Cathycomehome · 10/04/2012 19:51

Like anonacfr, I know he's gay...I still quite fancy him! We're going to see him in May I think, really looking forward to it.

AbiAbi · 10/04/2012 19:51

Actually Grandmas House is back for a second series Smile

I love Simon, I like his humour and loved his reign on Buzzcocks.

Clawdy · 10/04/2012 20:19

Rupert Graves is gay??Shock

GoingToBedfordshire · 10/04/2012 20:23

Grandma's House starts again next week, April 19th I think.

Yay, it's great.

survivingspring · 10/04/2012 20:26

YABU - he's really funny and I thought his stand up was fantastic, really different and laugh out loud funny.

I loved him on Buzzcocks too!

Clawdy · 10/04/2012 20:28

anonacfr you can relax,Rupert Graves is married with three kids!just googled him....

celticlassie · 10/04/2012 20:33

Tbf, the Buzzcocks incident was Preston from the Ordinary Boys who married Chantelle after meeting her on CBB (He was seeing someone when he went onto CBB and dumped her for Chantelle). They are now also long divorced. He was a bit of a target...

loubielou31 · 10/04/2012 20:46

Yay that Grandma's house is coming back. I loved that, watched it with tears streaming down my face, laughing so much it made my head hurt. Grin

CremeEggThief · 10/04/2012 21:01

Fab news that "Grandma's House" is coming back so soon :).

Sprogged · 10/04/2012 21:12

YANBU, he is creepy and his stand up left me and hubby cold too. Alan Cumming though, yum yum Grin

Proudnscary · 10/04/2012 21:36

I love him and thought he was fecking hilarious on Buzzcocks.

Maybe you have to be Jewish to appreciate him!

anonacfr · 10/04/2012 22:03

Grandma's house was hilarious. I love Simon's mother in it. Her line about her vagina being like a sweatshop after giving birth was superb.

Clawdy I'm kind of disappointed to find out Rupert Graves is straight. It kills a lot of rather nice gay sex fantasies.... Grin
