AIBU to expect that during a 'relaxing' spa treatment

..that the beauty therapist would shut the fuck up?

Honestly, she talked non stop. About her life, her flat hunting, her boyfriend, her fucking eyebrow tattoo course. I gave her one word answers and told her I wanted a peaceful treatment. Didn't take this on board at all. She left the room while a face and neck mask thing sunk in and that 20 minutes was the only relaxing element of the whole experience.

She also subjected me to a hard sell- fair enough- we all have to make a living- but I felt under pressure to buy products and packages. (I didn't).

I complained to the front desk when I was leaving. They were apologetic but...meh...

This was a gift from my birthday and I feel that my friend wasted her money as I feel about as relaxed as a rabbit in headlights. Mind you, I am glowing and my pores are lovely.

AIBU to expect peace and quiet and not to have to demand they shut up or is this how it works?

Calm down NoFood.

I don't think the OP was being harsh. A relaxing spa treatment is supposed to be relaxing. Mind switching off, relaxing!

gafhyb · 06/04/2012 18:26

she didn't insult you. She disagreed. You, OTOH were rude and petty

gafhyb · 06/04/2012 18:27

Spuddy - did the OP's beauty therapist insult her?

Garliccheesechips · 06/04/2012 18:27

WTF Shriekable ? That's an awful thing to say. What a bitch.

I was once offered a cream that would 'give me cheekbones'.

Think I have those already, otherwise my face would cave in.

"and then just abuse those that don't agree with them"

What, NoFood, like you're doing right now?

Garliccheesechips · 06/04/2012 18:29

I think NoFood is diverting her stress towards AIBU. Her response was aggressive and stupid, and I'll leave it at that really.

no gaf shriekables wedding trial make up artist said eyeliner would make her eyes look droopy, because of her age (er 37!)

Garliccheesechips · 06/04/2012 18:31

Hmmm, I think my normal routine of a weekly pedeggathon and a superdrug facemask is probably the way forward.

Mind you.....skin...is...soooo....soft.......oooooh.

So are you denying you thought this thread up whilst 'relaxing' at your spa treatment? :o

Garliccheesechips · 06/04/2012 18:32

No, funnily enough. But usually I think in headlines as I'm a sub editor.

YANBU

Any treatment would be ruined for me if the therapist talked through it :(

Spuddybean · 06/04/2012 18:35

i went for a fringe trim (in Liverpool - not my home town) and the hairdresser said 'shall i give you highlights?' i said no thanks, so she said 'how about a sunbed treatment?' I said, um, no thanks, she went on about them, getting more and more agitated with me. So i said 'just the trim is fine thanks' and she snapped 'i'm just trying to make you look less witchy'!! (i have dark brown hair and pale skin)

Garliccheesechips · 06/04/2012 18:37

I think the mean posters on here are only horrible to me because I'm beautiful goddammit. [bugrin]

Garliccheesechips · 06/04/2012 18:37

Holy fuck Spuddy, what kind of places are you going to???

NoFoodwithaFace · 06/04/2012 18:38

I was giving you a response and you called me illiterate. Pretty vile over reaction really. I think that just reflects the personality you showed in your first post. She was chatting to you, poor you if that is the worst of your problems.

Spuddybean · 06/04/2012 18:41

as i said it was a salon in Liverpool while i was up for the weekend. A lot of the ladies there prefer the tango face and white hair extensions look.

I said to her 'in London it's quite normal to have hair darker than your face'. Suffice to say i did not get a good hair cut!

MixedClassBaby · 06/04/2012 18:41

YADNBU, OP. I had to ask midwife to 'please stop talking' during birth of DD as she wittered on endlessly about her son in Australia, the sugar content of biscuots, my 'lovely top' etc. I tried my best to be polite between contractions and pushes until I could take no more. My hairdresser also talks incessant bollocks at great volume and it stresses me out. I know people who do this are 'just being nice' but they must notice when people start glazing over or gnawing their cheeks on the inside to stay sane?

SuePurblybiltFromChocolate · 06/04/2012 18:42

Now, is this in the spirit of Easter, nofood? Ms Garlic? Hmmm? Howsabout we all share this lovely creme egg and be BFF?
Bags me the orangey bit.

Garliccheesechips · 06/04/2012 18:43

Well sorry about your hurt feelings NoFood, but you started it with the 'utterly nasty' comment, which was a bit of an overreaction to me wondering if overly talkative beauty therapists were unprofessional. I think when they were handing out the overreactions, you picked a bunch of them.

And I'm a bit pedantic about people who can't spell TBH.

I don't think you ABU and I think some posters on here are being downright rude - as was your therapist.

HalfPastWine · 06/04/2012 18:45

Perhaps NoFood was your therapist !

gafhyb · 06/04/2012 18:46

what about the go back to the paddy fields, bit?

in the spirit of truth and reconciliation, can we put that into the room?

Garliccheesechips · 06/04/2012 18:48

Listen, this is AIBU, and there's always a clutch of outraged people looking for an outlet. If someone posted "AIBU to save orphans from raging fires?" You would get 'YABU for thinking you're a hero, get over yourself' or similar.

Personally I fucking love it.
