''that awkward moment when...''

It used to be kind of amusing. Now people seem to use it for everything, even when it doesn't make sense!

OP posts:
garlicbutter · 06/04/2012 17:22

Few years ago they were using "ironic" to mean ... well, a bit of a bummer. It annoyed my inner pedant no end!

But Young People like these little sayings, don't they? I recall my parents having great screaming implosions over my sibs & me saying "I mean ... ... What's that all about?" for no discernible (to them) reason at all.

Chillax! Or don't they say that any more? Grin

LadyBeagleEyes · 06/04/2012 17:26

Is it a teen thing then?
That's fine teens do talk a lot of crap, especially online.
I'm sure I did too, my teens are but a hazy memory, but I bet I irritated the shit out of people.

IAmBooyhoo · 06/04/2012 17:29

Wow!! Shock that neville longbottom really grew into himself didn't he? is that the effect hollywood has on teens?

IAmBooyhoo · 06/04/2012 17:31

IDST= if destroyed still true Grin

usually written underneath a love heart with your friend's initials and the ugliest boy in school's or the boy she really fancies but woudl die if he knew.

Mrsjay · 06/04/2012 17:46

I dont think neville has ever been near hollywood he is all brittish male i think he has looked like that for a while and they uglied him up a bit for the last couple of harry potters

Mrsjay · 06/04/2012 17:47

iAmbooyhoo i didnt know what IDST meant either now when i see it on teens facebook i will know , see those kids think they know it all Grin

GreenEyesAndHam · 06/04/2012 18:00

Thanks for explaining Booey Grin

I don't think the teens of today use IDST Mrsjay, at least I hope not Confused

onelittlefish · 06/04/2012 18:08

Can top that awkward moment with the phrase "epic" to mean anything that above dull / longer than an hour / more than 400 pages long.

Not on Facebook so never really get "that awkward moment".

Mrsjay · 06/04/2012 18:09

Epic followed by FAIL arghhhh stop it

Mrsjay · 06/04/2012 18:10

oh dont they use it I havnt seen it i just thought if i did i would be 1 ahead

IAmBooyhoo · 06/04/2012 18:11

there is a fence that was built near my house only 4 years ago and it is covered with IDST and lots of initials in hearts so the teens do still do it. that or the adults of the town like to revisit their mis spent youth! Grin

Ilovedaintynuts · 06/04/2012 18:17

'My bad' is another that annoys me. When did I become this grumpy and uncool?

SecretNutellaFix · 06/04/2012 18:19

the overuse and incorrect use of the word literally. I have a colleague who loves the sounds of her own voice. Once I decided to count how many times she used the word in one conversation.

It lasted 5 minutes. I stopped counting after 12.

GreenEyesAndHam · 06/04/2012 18:20
Shock

Can't believe it's still doing the rounds in some places Shock

There is hope for my Bring Back Bubble Writing campaign yet!

Or perhaps it would have to be a bubble font now Sad

edam · 06/04/2012 18:21

'Haters'. Stupid internet speak that people are now using in real life.

IAmBooyhoo · 06/04/2012 18:31

bubble writing!! my cousin taught me that after i saw her doing some homework in the 90's and i thought it was the best thing i'd ever seen. i thought i would write like that forever Grin

GreenEyesAndHam · 06/04/2012 18:39

You mean you don't?

Grin
IAmBooyhoo · 06/04/2012 18:56

no Sad

my manager at my first job (aged 17 in a bank) objected to the love heart above the i in my name when i signed things so i postponed the introduction of my 'talent' until i felt he would be more receptive. he never was. Grin

garlicbutter · 06/04/2012 19:11

Booy, thanks for a very relaxing half hour browsing for bubble fonts [bgrin] I know, I'm weird.

some free ones

best paid-for imo

Now you can write documents in your teenage writing!
I did see a love-hearts one, but lost it again.

Sorry.

garlicbutter · 06/04/2012 19:12

bubugger! [bugrin]

IAmBooyhoo · 06/04/2012 19:19

ooh that paid for one is bringing back memories of the back of the school toilet door

garlicbutter · 06/04/2012 19:20

this one's nice

garlicbutter · 06/04/2012 19:21

Yes! Me too! [bugrin] [bugrin]

GreenEyesAndHam · 06/04/2012 19:23

They are good but for true bubbly authenticity the letters should be all squashed up, so that each letter partly obscures the last. IMHO

GreenEyesAndHam · 06/04/2012 19:25

And also the font colour should be alternate pink and purple.
