thats it really, ear infection, bad cough, high temp. Not eaten properly for nearly a week. Out of desperation I bought him a Happy Meal (usually has them as a treat maybe once a month) in the week and he ate about half of it.

Not really eaten properly since then, am so desperate for him to eat something Im edging towards getting him another McDs today for his dinner. One part of me thinks if he is that hungry he should eat whatever I make him but I keep thinking that when Im ill there are only certain things I fancy so why should a 3 year old be any different?

I wouldnt even eat two in a week but AIBU to do it just this once just so he has eaten something?

You lot just made me open a family bag of frazzles. Stop with the quaterpounders and fries. This is about ill kids.

blubberyboo · 06/04/2012 14:17

my baby has a horrid cold today - i have spent all morning on the pc whilst nursing him and keeping him warm..i am starving
i think i need a quarterpounder and fries to see me through Wink

CommanderShepard · 06/04/2012 14:29

Fast food was the only thing that'd stay down when I was in the grip of HG, too. All bets were off at that point!

perceptionreality · 06/04/2012 14:36

Of course YANBU. When a child has been so ill it's entirely appropriate to give them treat food to get them eating again.

DialsMavis · 06/04/2012 14:38

I used to be a proper millitant McDonald's abstainer. DS has had it twice in his life, once he had fish fingers when he went out for a friends birthday when he was in reception, and once he had chicken nuggets when he had been ill for a week (he didn't eat them either). I was so controlling about what he ate. One of my most embarrassing pfb moments was serving up homemade hummus, organic rice cakes , crudités and a platter of fruit at his birthday party

I chilled out by the time I had DD, she is only 17 months so obviously hasn't been to the arches but has had fish and chips. Guess which child eats anything put in front of her? Or sometimes eats nothing if she isn't hungry even of its a biscuit or a yoghurt?

I wouldn't know where to join the line at what is fast food, pasta from pizza express? Pizza from the wanky posh place near my house? Wagamamas? If you feed them a good, wholesome balanced diet they eventually realise real food tastes better anyway but a bit of filth every now and then can do wonders Smile

DialsMavis · 06/04/2012 14:41

I made food into a battle ground and I really, really regret it...

Megatron · 06/04/2012 14:43

I'd most definitely give it to him. And did a couple of weeks ago when I was totally beside myself with worry about DS when he's been really poorly. He had eaten barely anything for 6 days and even then brought most of it up. When he started to feel better he had NO energy whatsoever and had lost 9 lbs in weight, it was bloody awful. When he said the only thing he fancied eating was McD's chips I had him in the car racing to the drive in before he'd finished his sentence. Happily he started gradually to get his appetite back and I let him eat whatever the hell he fancied for a few days but we're back to normal healthy (most of the time) eating now.

Sugarkane · 06/04/2012 15:08

Illness or a cold can make bf baby poo turn green, hope the family get better soon

OhDoAdmitMrsDeVere · 06/04/2012 15:16

I was poorly yesterday Sad
I just ate a microwave pizza Grin

ReindeerBollocks · 06/04/2012 15:26

DS has a few small items on his eat list when he is ill and McD's is one of them. We also find it a regular on the hospital wards (especially now the hospital only provide low fat foods Angry). We regularly stuff fatty foods into DS but unfortunately the home cooked variety now wins and he now wants Thai Seabass when he's ill. At least bloody McDonald's was easier Wink..

OP, YANBU, I hope everyone in your household feels better soon.

hightrees · 06/04/2012 15:45

Dials "One of my most embarrassing pfb moments was serving up homemade hummus, organic rice cakes , crudités and a platter of fruit at his birthday party"
Haaahahahaah ha ha cough.

Springforward · 06/04/2012 15:47

YANBU. I would so the same!

streakyfalsetan · 06/04/2012 15:53

Thai Seabass Grin

Hes had a couple of cold chips, didnt want them warming up. and a glass of milk and half of my diet coke when my back was turned . Wants his nappy keeping on so am giving in for now, am thinking if he doesnt have to get up for a wee every 10 minutes he can concentrate on resting. DPs keeping him occupied atm.

Other DS is going downhill rapidly with high temp and inconsoleable, am just listening to him snoring as hes finally gone to sleep, Ive never loved that noise so much! DPs still doing his dying swan act. Im starting with a headache and feel a bit fuzzy but its bound to be just stress of running about like a blue arse fly after them all.

Going to treat myself to an episode of Walking Dead upstairs while all is quiet, and will then go and paint a cross on our front door

yanbu. When I'm ill my appetite goes haywire.

When my dc's are ill I 'treat' them to whatever takes their fancy.

Once they're better I crack down on junk food and they eat sensibly again. DD mainlined ice-cream when she had chickenpox, as soon as she was well I stopped it and just ignored her whinging for the next couple of days.

rainbowinthesky · 06/04/2012 16:01

Dd cant eat fast food and it would make her a lot worse if she did eat it so I wouldnt.

rainbowinthesky · 06/04/2012 16:02

Although I would give it to ds.

skybluepearl · 06/04/2012 16:13

when mine started eating again its always non greasy, non dairy and plain foods. mostly soups, toast, pasta, crackers, jacket potato with beans, dry cerial. If they can, they will eat. Water is more important - and we tend to buy in sparkling water.

PavlovtheCat · 06/04/2012 16:21

Giraffe he is 2.4 now! Time flies! Sickness ended, literally the moment the placenta came out! I was desperate to eat, first thing I said was 'can I have tea and toast now please? ' I would have quite happily eaten a McDonald's quarterpounder at that point.

pumpkinsweetie · 06/04/2012 16:44

Nothing wrong with a happy meal once in a while dont worry moderation is key. When someone is ill they often fancy something like this YANBU.
In fact when my brother was suffering from cancer a lot of the children on the ward would only eat happy meals as it was comforting for them to have something familiar whilst they were miles from home, the parents ended up eating the hospital food (good food as it was at UCLH) so parents were happy to eat it

RabbitsMakeBrownEggs · 06/04/2012 16:44

Skips are a good one for vomiting illness, you can just let them melt on your tongue and barely have to swallow even. Along with flat lemonade. Proper sickness diet.

I'd give him what he'll eat. No nutrition at all versus some nutrition, albeit in the form of Maccy Ds, it's not really a thinker, is it? When DS had his tonsils out, I let him exist on ice lollies, crisps and whatever else would be eaten/drank. I'd have given him full fat coke if he'd asked for it, because watching him refuse for days on end, screaming with pain which is because he was letting his throat dry up and scab, you'd give them their hearts desire on a platter to get it into them.

All you do is say no when they are better and more able to starve without dinner because they refused it and wanted a Big Mac. Right now you want as much in them as possible so they don't get any sicker.

lalaland3008 · 06/04/2012 17:44

Let him have a mcds, I always wangt one when I'm ill too!

Just watch that it doesn't turn into a habit once he's better.

takingiteasy · 06/04/2012 17:48

YANBU.

My DS had the same kind of thing, ear infection etc, a few weeks back. Perked up on the Friday and decided he wanted a Pizza Hut (which we've never been to with him) but I know what it's like to crave something when getting your appetite back after an illness. The saltier and fattier the better usually!

ChippingInNeedsCoffee · 06/04/2012 18:07

I hope all three of your patients are feeling better by the morning and that you don't get it!!

streakyfalsetan · 07/04/2012 09:02

well DP looks a bit better.

DS1 still not eaten, had a bite of a hot cross bun just now but thats it, and hes really sleepy although hes had about 15 hours sleep. DS2 doing a bit better, no more green poo.

Just waiting for a taxi to go to the walk in centre to get them checked over. Think Im starting with it but dont have time to be ill so refuse to believe it Grin
