I had just got in from a late work meeting when door went, dh went to answer it, was a charity door knocker. Can you give £2 a month for...... I appreciate times are hard and charities must be suffering, but 9pm? Normally i would be in my pj's! There are lot's of elderly people down our street too. On way way to the kitchen (to get some wine) i passed the door where dh had repeated several times how we wasn't interested, thank you, so i said to the guy i thought 9pm was late and rude to knock on doors. DH thinks I'm moody and have found someone else to moan about now the weekly news man has stopped delivering our paper at 11pm. Am i turning into one of those grumpy old women?

yanbu!

faeriefruitcake · 04/04/2012 22:06

9pm would have got the door shut in their face at my house ynbu

supernannyisace · 04/04/2012 22:06

OMG YANBU

I don't even answer the phone after 9pm -never mind the door.

emsyj · 04/04/2012 22:06

YANBU. I would not expect anyone to knock on my door at that hour unless it was an emergency.

curiositykitten · 04/04/2012 22:06

YANBU. Far too late. He needs to get a proper job Wink

SillyBeardyDaddyman · 04/04/2012 22:08

YANBU if they knock at your door between midday and midday tomorrow, they've arrived at an unreasonable hour. If I believe in a charity I will give them money. If they send someone to my door at all, they can generally do one!

Worse than chuggers! Angry

StripyMagicDragon · 04/04/2012 22:11

YANBU , I think that's far too late for sales/charity cold calling.

dribbleface · 04/04/2012 22:14

glad it's not just me, will tell dh I'm not miserable, he's just too polite!

YANBU.

If I was running the country I would ban cold calling like this.

hermionestranger · 04/04/2012 22:16

YANBU I would have shut the door in his face!

I shouted at two doorstep chuggers last week after I explained I don't donate to their charity, they started arguing with me about why I should. I got a little cross pmt yelling and told them politely shouted a bit to gerroff moi land! Angry

SillyBeardyDaddyman · 04/04/2012 22:16

Tell him that "no" is fine, but nothing beats a good old fashioned "fuck off" Grin

catgirl1976 · 04/04/2012 22:18

YANBU - It is too late

However - if you felt like supporting a really great charity that won't knock on you door late at night, do click on MrsDVs "Oh Bugger" thread and support her in her charity run

echt · 04/04/2012 22:19

YANBU - how can they think it's OK to call after dark anyway, harder to see who the heck's calling, and potentially scary for some?

dribbleface · 04/04/2012 22:21

catgirl will have a look [grim]

Love how we both buggered up our grins :)

DoubleGlazing · 04/04/2012 22:31

YANBU. Cold callers are always annoying but even more so well into the evening.

MrsGnits · 04/04/2012 23:37

Dribbleface - you must live near me. We had them at 8.45pm and I said to my husband should I post this on AIBU.

Cutelittlecatlover · 04/04/2012 23:46

Yanbu we had them here at 9pm one night last week, he knocked the door so hard it woke ds up Angry

Rowgtfc72 · 05/04/2012 17:44

We had one at that time not so long ago. I opened the door, he started his spiel, I saw red and started giving him a piece of my mind. Poor guy looked genuinely scared and backed off with his hands in front of his face. You are so NBU.

DizzyKipper · 05/04/2012 19:02

Seeing as I sometimes try to get to bed for 9pm (up early and trouble sleeping) I agree, 9pm is far too late - especially for cold calling. It would've had me quite worried that something was seriously wrong.

PreviouslyonLost · 05/04/2012 19:19

BOGUS Charity callers doing the round here over last few days. No official charity would 'cold call'...caller wanted bank details to gift to charity for deaf children. The person was smartly dressed, had clipboard, also had I.D that showed them as having a completely different appearance (different hair colour). One individual was in the area for over seven hours, FB alerts were rife, only a few had the sense to call the Police - who never appeared Hmm

Definitely call the Police, you may be on the ball enough to say feck off, elderly or vulnerable maybe not so savvy.

dribbleface · 05/04/2012 19:53

i did wonder whether to let the local unit know (our estate has it's own one Blush, its not that rough really!). is it worth notifying them now do you think?

dribbleface yes, give them a call...if only to set your own mind at rest. I reckon there was >200 FB messages locally tracking this person (small village) and it was quite far down the messages before someone suggested calling the Police!
