A friend had a party recently for a landmark birthday, and not a single person had a camera or took photos. I got mine out to take but it turned out it was broken and wouldn't charge up. So I wanted to, but couldn't.(my phone won't take good photos in low light so that was a no-go too). Their parents, DP and close friends were all there. There was a lovely cake with candles and a silly photo on top. And there aren't any photos to documeht it.

I fully admit I'm a bit of a sop when it comes to this kind of thing. I love photos and the memories that go with them. At DH's do a few months ago there were lots of people with cameras and I love looking at the pics as it was such a good night. This party was good fun, but it makes me a bit sad that there isn't a single photo of it.

Why didn't your friend bring a camera?

Did no-one have mobile phones?

redspottedfrog · 04/04/2012 21:21

I suppose he's a bit like my DH and it wouldn't have occured to him (although he took photos at my DH's party). Yup everyone had a phone, but like I said noone tried to take any photos. I didn't with mine as they just come out blurry and crap. So it would have looked as if I didn't make the effort either.

The memories are in his head. We take FAR too many photos these days anyway. Some of my best memories are just that..no pics to look at.

AgentZigzag · 04/04/2012 21:31

But some of the best pics are when you're too hammered to remember what went on though AwkwardM, bit of a memory prompt Grin

Not that that would apply to me ever.

redspottedfrog · 04/04/2012 21:36

awkward I do kind of agree as with digital cameras it's easy to take hundreds in a night. But as Agent rightly said, they are a very good memory prompt when one has imbibed a bit too much!

YABU. Documenting every moment of every event is a new, unnecessary phenomenon. My dad does this, it drives me bonkers. He misses so much as he only sees the world through a lense. Whenever aanything happpens, he either misses part of it by running to get his camera, or turns it into a negative by lamenting the fact that he forgot his camera. That's 3 grandchildren's first steps, first word, first meal- all of which were greeted with 'what a shame I didn't get a photo' instead of the joy they should have brought.

< not bitter>

But maybe just one photo, possibly of him blowing out his millios of candles might have been nice, no?

Last christmas I didn't take 1 photo, and enjoyed Christmas alot more.

NagooBunnytail · 04/04/2012 21:57

I am :( because I never get to take any photos of DC's birthdays. I am always the one holding the cake, DH is holding the baby, it just doesn't happen.

GPs take pictures, but they are never like I want them to be prob cause I'm in them

My dh is a big F1 fan, I took him to Monza for his birthday last yr. For those that are F1 fans you may remember there was a big pile up at the first corner, right in front of where we were sitting. He completley missed it as he was looking through a camera. We came back from our holiday with about 500 pics of cars!

However saying that one pic of your friend at his party would have been nice.
