It has taken pretty much 3 years for DS1 not to winge or cry when the adverts come on (for what seems like every 5 minutes, for 5 minutes) on Sky Kids tv channels. DS2 is now at it - whining and crying when the adverts come on...DS3 is still a baby but I have potentially another 4 years of this.

Arrgghhhhhh!

(for the record, they only watch it for 30/45 mins after teatime Wink)

There is no consoling them.

AIBU to think that TV advertisers have a lot to answer for with regards to my emotional well-being?

Nick Jr is the worse for this. My son crys at adverts so now I put Disney Jr on as there's hardly any of them Grin

Otherwise he will keep shouting me to turn it over at every advert while I'm trying to do something

ChocolateBiscuitCake · 04/04/2012 20:22

You are right - it is Nick Jr and Peppa Pig that is the worst combo!

Can't do disney and can't sit through Handy Manny!

Ummm...not sure that 4 years of The Night Garden will be much better - those Pontipines are like Japanese torture to watch!

HATE Nick Jnr! Angry Adverts every 2 minutes (feels like!) And I resent that, although I'm pretty sure the channel is aimed at around 5 and under, they advertise shit toys aimed at children 6 or even 8 years and over. My 4 year old now wants a fucking Bratz doll (she isn't getting one- I can stomach Barbie, at least she has a career -or several- Grin ). Rant over!

I miss Cbeebies Sad no adverts, no twee american accents... heaven!

Cabrinha · 04/04/2012 22:01

Turn it off?
Or go for BBC.
or Sky+ a selection of programmes every day and watch them one day delayed every day. (do they have adverts during cartoons or just at the end? If the former, at least you can whizz through them)
Watch DVDs.

sasamunde · 04/04/2012 22:07

I don't have sky but my parents do so I was subjected to this for the first time last weekend. They were advertising leg wax and dishwasher tablets hahahaha. Both took some explaining to DD (2)

On demand, record-the-series and YouTube must be the way forward. And good old Bbc.

Iteotwawki · 04/04/2012 23:50

Just disconnect Sky! If it's only 30mins or so get some kids DVDs - no adverts, they can watch what they want to when they want to :)

We moved here 3 years ago and have yet to get even the terrestrial aerial connected. Don't miss it at all.

Valpollicella · 04/04/2012 23:55

I had DS explain to me yesterday that I needed to leave the Vanish powder stuff on the carpet for 20 mins and then hoover it up. As I picked it up off the shelf Hmm Grin

Still it's better than him handing me the phone and telling me to call to reclaim my PPI that has been 'misdolled' to me

Thanks Cartoonito ad sales team Wink

pictish · 04/04/2012 23:57

That's why it's Cbeebies all the way here. Wink
I'm not smug - I hate adverts.

Valpollicella · 05/04/2012 00:00

Ah but Pict, DS is in that awkward inbetween stage of some programmes are ok on Beebies, but just this evening Postman Pat was decreed a baby programme Sad

Goolash · 05/04/2012 00:06

Be positive. Advertising will always be part of their lives. ads will only get more sophisticated. Easier they learn "no" as a toddler, that you can sit on, than as a teenager, who you wouldn't want to sit on.

I've let my kids have free access to channels with ads. They have both gone through stages of coming to me shouting "mummy mummy I must have... ". They get over it.

LyingWitchInTheWardrobe2726 · 05/04/2012 04:04

Are your children crying because their programme is interrupted or because they want the things on the adverts?

The cure for either is simple - a firm "No" or "Stop crying" - "or I will switch the tv OFF"... and do it. However young they are, they will quickly learn.

TiggyD · 05/04/2012 09:07

The commercial stations are free. Are you like this with presents people give you? Do you keep them and complain that they're not good enough for you? Adverts pay for the programmes. No ads, no programmes.

You want the moon on a stick.

molly3478 · 05/04/2012 09:12

Sky+ it and then fast forward through them
